This outfit was worn by Nellie in the DVD Samantha: An American Girl Holiday.
Grade: B+ Reivew: I loved the plaid color and the contrast between the white fabric on the collar and red in the sash. My one pet peeve(actually two) are the shoes(recycled Felicity shoes) and the hair bow. Please! a red little hairbow on a scrunchy,it dosen't go well with Nellie's semi short hair. I did enjoy the tradeing card with info about the dress etc, nice touch. -Sarah

Hate the bow but have learned to deal with it. We use a small elastic then then only place the bow on with one wrap-fold-wrap. makes it not so chunky. I have decided that I was going to alter it and put a barrette on the back to make it better. I love the sleeves on this dress. They really did a wonderful job in producing it. All of the pleats are well done and stay well in place. She has a red velvet sash around her middle. It closes in the back and the sash is finished in a bow with no need for tyeing. Lovely Lovely. the shoes are a recycled design from Felicity's Meet shoes except they are a patent leather. I don't mind that they are from the dame design because that happens all through history and a buckle shoe like this is pretty common.

I also love this outfit, it looks good on and Victorian girl. The bow bugs me a little bit, but I love the shoes! I think they go perfectly with this dress.
The yoke is so detailed, and the sleeves are just beautiful.

I like this outfit a lot. My only complaint is that the things (I don't know what to call them) on the shoulders of the dress really get in the way of her hair because of the length. Also, the bow for her hair is kind of difficult. I still give it an A, though.

The shoulder ruffles are called 'bretelles.'
(This moment of useless trivia brought to you by final's week procrastination.)
I put Nellie in this today and for some reason I remembered it being tight...but this year it fit perfectly and I was delighted. I wonder if Nellie went on a diet? The dress is just lovely and looks surprisingly good with her coloring.

This is my favorite Nellie outfit. Scratch that, it is the only historical Nellie outfit that I actually like. The design and fabrics go well on it and with Nellie. I have no problem with the hairbow- it actually has worked for my Nellie so far. I like the fact that the skirt is wide enough. A+

This aside to Nellie's spring tea party outfit is one of her best outfits. It is definatly nice for a victorian girlthe plaid during that time period is questionable however. The bow for me is impossible to put in her hair. So I bought a red ribbon at a craft store to put in her hair and it looks much better. Overall I give it an A.

It's mentioned frequently in the Betsy-Tacy books by Maud Hart Lovelace which were based upon her own childhood. I just ordered it for my Betsy.

Nellie's Holiday outfit is really nice. It is a favorite for all my dolls and I have not found a doll that looks bad in it. It is very detailed and I like that the bow is on a hair tie. The stockings are the same ones that come with all the other Nellie outfits, nothing great about them. I seem to have lost my shoes so I can't comment on them. A+

You know, I wasn't sure about this outfit when I saw it on the web site, but I got it from the outlet sale because the price was right. I'm really glad I did because it look fabulous on my PM Sam! I agree with everyone who hates the bow, though. I'm not sure if I'm really going to use it - what a pain. Overall, though, the dress gets an A!!! And the shoes fit with minimal shoving.

I got this dress for Amanda after going on a Victorian/Edwardian kick from watching Sherlock Holmes. : I love it! The dress - this is so high-quality! The dress is made from thick, crisp, shiny taffeta, with a wonderfully large bold plaid pattern. The colors are terrific and work well together, and IMO it would look better on a dark-haired doll like Samantha, rather than Nellie (and it also looks very nice on Josefina when she plans to masquerade as Italian immigrant). I really love the pleating detail, they are deep enough to stay in place and the skirt uses enough fabric to seem swingy. There's also a lot of detail on the yoke, which is made from a thinner cotton and decorated with tiny white buttons. The sleeves look correct, helped a little with elastic sewn in at various sections. My only quibble is that the dress is supposed to be "drop-waisted", but it is sewn to the belt so you can't really make the top blouse over, and also the pleats are only stitched halfway down so you can see the thread. Still, though, A+The hairbow - I never had many problems with this, but I usually use it for a different style than Nellie or Sam. It's not really a bow, just a piece of folded velvet tied in a knot and sewn to a ponytail holder. I don't mind the ponytail holder but it's just so thick, if it had been a piece of elastic it would have looked better. Also, I'm not sure if a velvet hairbow is historically accurate. A-The tights - super-thin AG tights of the flimsiest variety. They seem really oddly long, too! I use these for the Ice Blue outfit, not this dress, for which I substitute Samantha's Christmas tights which look much better. C-The shoes - I LOVE THESE! I think they are just like Felicity's shoes, only made from patent leather. They also sport a round gold buckle on the top. They are just so shiny and absolutely adorable, and they complete the outfit. They also fit PM dolls! A+
