This outfit was worn by Nellie in the DVD Samantha: An American Girl Holiday, and by Samantha in the first edition of Samantha's Surprise.
Holiday Coat $24 NROC Grade: B As you can see Nellie loves her coat. It is charming and makes her eyes sparkle. It is a wonderful, ful length coat with a cape. Coat closes with snaps and has buttons on the outside of the garment. The cape is unattached and closes with two cords at the neck. All of this is finished off with a spotted faux fur trim. Nellie aslo has two red knit mittens with a cord that keeps them easy to find. They pull through the sleeves of the coat. I give this a B because it is tight in the sleeves. We were barely able to slip her arms in when she has her holiday dress on. I also give it that because the satin lining where the hat rolls up is to large and shows past the fur.The last reason is because the cape could have had a few snaps to keep it from being lost. The cord ties, while pretty and shiney, slip from theor bows and come loose easily.

A+ for design and details. C- for execution. Like most of AG's outerwear, they didn't make the sleeves big enough to fit over other outfits - I'm guessing they use the same pattern for all long sleeves? The chest is pretty snug, too. And the hat - well, if I pull it down hard enough to stay on it really messes Nellie's hair. If I just perch it on it looks weird and slides off.
Still lovely for display. It fits better over Nellie's meet dress than her Christmas dress.

Nellie's coat is so pretty. I have not had any problems with fitting. Yet again Marisol has claimed another one of Nellie's things. I like that the cape is separate from the coat. The hat doesn't fit over hair styles but if you're doing a photo story my advice is style the hair after the hat comes off. The mittens are cute but mine have a tiny hole. A+

This is quite possibly my favourite historical outfit, with the exception of Felicity’s summer gown. To me, it harks back to the pre-Mattel days, when everything fastened with snaps and ties instead of with Velcro. The outfit consists of a calf-length coat, cape, hat and mittens. I actually thought that that the mittens were attached to the coat, but they are separate and run through the sleeves of the coat. They are super cute, but I can see that they could unravel easily if handled roughly. The coat could probably be worn alone, without the cape or hat. It is double-breasted and collared, and closes with snaps. It is super cute, and though the sleeves are a bit small, my Nellie is mostly for display. She often wears this coat as an outfit, with nothing but her tights underneath. Because of this, I haven’t had any problems, though I can see that it might reduce the piece’s playability. I also had no problems whatsoever with the cape. I find that tucking it underneath the collar and then tying it on keeps it secure – and the leopard print is absolutely adorable! My hat is also not all defective (the lining does not show through) and looks amazing on Nellie. The deep colours and rich materials work beautifully for her complexion. All in all, this outfit gets an A+ from me. It is definitely worth its $26.00 price tag.

I love this coat! It is very cute. It seems like it would keep your doll warm on a cold day. A+ My #25 likes it too. Here it is without the cape and with a different hat (my mind is blanking, I can't think of what outfit it's from...)

I give the coat an A.
I ordered my from another member who was selling it and I am in love with it. I always thought it was pretty in the catalogs but it took my breath away in person.
Samantha is currently sporting it since I don't have a Nellie and didn't feel like putting any of my other girls in a dress and she looks lovely. The coat is a little lose in the sleeves (Sam is wearing her meet dress) but over all it looks and fits fabulous. No hard time putting it on or snagging, it's Leo approved as he laid on it and rolled over so I could rub his belly the second I laid it out.
The mittens are too cute and I'm half tempted to see if my great gma can find someone to make me a matching pair.
My only complaint is the hat. It's cute but it looks way to small, also there is no stretch like the other hats. I had to take Sam's bow out and lossen the band to get it on but then had to redo it anyway because it was too low in the front and pushed her bangs into her eyes. I plan to try it on one of my bangless dolls and see what happens so I'm not sure if I'll be using the hat ALL the time because of that. Messy doll hair bothers me.
