Nellie wore her Meet outfit in the book Nellie’s Promise. Nellie is a beautiful doll. I give her an A+! Her reddish blonde hair is beautiful and unique. Her freckles are darling, and those eyes are deep blue and very thoughtful. Nellie has bangs, which are also cute. They are different than most AG bangs in that they are thinner and shorter. They really look good on her. Nellie's hair is shoulder length and a little longer than Kit's hair is. Nellie has the Josefina face mold. BTW--the blue in Nellie's eyes is the darker blue, like Kit's, not the lighter blue like Kirsten's. Nellie's meet dress is gorgeous, too. It is obviously post-adoption and somewhat higher class. It is blue and white with a ruffled white color which I think is adorable. The neck opening is sort of square-shaped and shows a bit of Nellie's cloth body. Nellie's dress has a blue sash and Nellie's hair comes with a matching ribbon. The white tights are soft and easy to put on Nellie, though I caution you to be careful when getting the tights too near velcro (as is used to close the meet dress) since it is easly caught and snagged. The only negative about Nellie's meet outfit is the mary-jane shoes, which are just like Molly's and Samantha's. These are a sort of rubbery plastic and do not look very realistic. They are cute enough, though, and little girls would hardly notice. Nellie's accessories are darling as well! Her hat is beautiful as is her little coin purse. Both of these match her dress. The coin purse is embroidered and oh so cute! It is difficult to put Nellie's hat on her when she has the large blue ribbon (that matches the sash) in her hair, however, so one might try taking that off first. My favorite thing about Nellie's accessories is her cross necklace. It has a definite Irish design and looks a little antiquated, so it is easy to see that it was Nellie's mothers. Good quality metal, as well. Nellie, her meet outfit, and accessories get an A+.

This is the best close-up I have of Nellie since I don't live with her anymore. She seems to suffer from a ribbon-in-face problem. It's not too bad in this picture.

Oh, I just love Nellie! I give her an A+
Nellie is a very cute doll, nearly irresistable in person. I resisted until I saw her in person at AGPLA and then it was all over from there.
Nellie has cute freckles and deep teal eyes, and her face paint is lovely. She has the squiggly eyebrows (not the one-line ones), which I like, and her eyebrows match her strawberry blonde hair nicely. Her lips are nice and pink. Nellie's hair is a cute shoulder-length strawberry blonde bob. Overall, I think her look is quite unique and charming.
Her meet outfit is one of the better ones out of all the historicals, in my opinion. Her dress is double-layered and is nicely detailed. The fabric is nice. Her panties and shoes are not impressive, but that's OK. She also comes with tights.
Nellie will soon be on my website- I'm updating this weekend. It's in my siggy.

I love my little Nellie Faith O'Malley Nellie has strawberry blonde hair and freckles, plus blue eyes that I love. She looks alot like Kit, with the only difference being hair color (and time period of course) but I have also noticed Nellie's hair is a little bit longer! I give her an A++++++++++ infinity!

Nellie was my second AG purchase after I started collecting again. I think she's lovely. I would rate her Meet dress as an A- simply because I'd prefer that the white overlay of her dress be thinner so we could see the blue - like in her book's illustrations. Other than that, she's perfect!

Grade: A- Hi, this is Coco's daughter (Coco-Kate) not Coco talking. I LOVE Nellie. She is best friends with my other doll, Kate (#23). When she arrived, I was SO excited! If her necklace didn't break so easily (My mom phoned, and customer service is sending a new one) and her hair wasn't quite so short (it's almost impossible to style), she'd no doubt get an A+. She kind of reminds me of myself. I don't know why, she just does. Maybe it's the freckles and the sweet expression. Right now she is wearing the Ready for Fun outfit, and Kate is wearing her meet. They look so cute in each other's outfits! People say that she looks like Kit. I used to think that they looked very similar, but once you compare them, you realize that they look totally different! Overall, she is a beautiful doll and I encourage you to buy her. Coco-Kate

The Nellie doll per se is great. I like the fact that they used the second face mold. I like her freckles. The blue of her eyes is a different shade than that of Kirsten. And I like her hair color very much. And her bangs. A+
The Meet dress...well, the design is fine per se. The color is way too pale. Looks too washed out on Nellie. Perhaps a sky blue or periwinkle one would have worked better than the baby blue used. The bloomers and shoes are fine. B.

Nellie's not my favorite doll, but she's cute enough. I like her little strawberry blonde bob (a bit longer than Kit's), wispy bangs, dark blue eyes, and freckles. She looks beautiful in Meet outfit and many of Samantha's dresses. I'm not exactly in love with how the Josefina mold looks on her, but I've gotten used to it. My Nellie is a first release - purchased from AGPNY in July 2004. She's one of those Nellies who is quite tall. Grade: A- [

Nellie is pretty but I don't think that Josefina's face mold looks good on her. Her eyes are dark blue and her freckles really stand out. Her dress is very pretty. I like the layered look with the blue dress underneath just showing slightly through the white outer layer. She's a nice doll but I just don't like her as much as prototype Nellie. (see custom dolls section).

Nellie is an absolute gem. She has that sweetest face and her hair is really soft and pretty. Her accessories are great too. I LOVE the little celtic cross. The only problem is once I took her ribbon out of her hair, it's really hard to get back in.

I purchased Nellie as a gift for my grandma for Christmas 2008. She has an adorable face, silky hair, and comes with a big bow that matches her pretty dress.

Nellie is adorable. Everything about her is just so sweet. Too cute. She's very unique with the Josefina face mold and the freckles. Also, she has the rosiest cheeks of all my dolls and the pinkest lips. She. Is. Darling.
Doll Grade: A++++++ (they go on and on...)

Nellie 23 August 2004 I love my Nellie - I got her soon after her release. She looks great in both modern and historical clothing. I usually buy Sam's clothes because I'm not fussed on most of hers, and she looks great in Sam's dresses. Her hair is so easy to style, and it looks so cute in pigtails. And I absolutely adore her dark blue eyes! My grade: A mod edit to remove broken image links

Here is my Nellie, who arrived on Monday:
[image removed to be replaced when I find a new hosting site] I was silly and took her bow out before I took pics. Yes, it's every bit as difficult to get back in as others have said! She's gorgeous though and I give her a resounding A. The only thing I can add to the previous reviews is, AG, what WERE you thinking with her shoes???!
The plastic shoes are truly awful and they are SO out of place given the quality (and price tag) of the doll and her outfit. It's not even as if Nellie has her own shoes and socks set to buy separately. That's my only gripe.
I am very glad I bought Nellie before she was locked away with Samantha.

I give Nellie an A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++!! I got Nellie as my third doll and her hair withstands little children very well (I have a little sister). I would definately reccomend her to a collector or a parent looking for the perfect doll for their child. Her outfit is also very well made, as are her accessories. Another A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ for those items! -Megan

I just got Nellie on Sunday at AGPLA. The Samantha/Nellie section was a warzone too, and there were only two Nellies left in the section. She is really a knockout in person... so sweet. And we bonded quite nicely on the 2 hour ride home (my mom drove, so I got to snuggle her XD). She's got a cute face, her hair is easy to deal with, and I love her meet outfit. I like the color of it on her. The shoes are the same as Sam and Molly's, and they are what they are. I've never had that much difficulty with them myself, but I do wish that there was something that at least seemed a little more period appropriate. I give her an A+++! Here she is at tea at AGP this sunday:

I love my Nellie. I would rate her as an A. The only downside to her is her skin tone. I find her skin to be a little pink/peachish and so many colors of clothing end up looking odd on her. I give her hair and her meet dress an A++ though!

Nellie is easily one of the cutest dolls! Her hair is easy to style and I love the dark blue eyes! Her meet dress is gorgeous and looks good on all my other dolls too! Her tights snag easily and the shoes are probably not very period appropriate. The panties are just normal panties, nothing special about them. The hair ribbon is hard to put back is so it usually ends up being a head band. One bad thing is she is more cute as opposed to pretty so to me it is hard to have her be any older than ten or eleven. That doesn't affect the grade though. A+

Like Bean said, Nellie is made of pure sugar and cute. I got my Nellie, Sarah Rose Jones (or just plain Rose) for Christmas from my dad. She completed the second Historical/best friend set I had. (The first was Felicity and Elizabeth. I've Emily, Kit, and Julie, but no Molly, Ruthie, or Ivy.) Rose is from 1912, but was taken from the Titanic by Mina, and now she time travels, and so is essentially modern. She's only got one modern outfit, and she prefers her blue dress. (Yeah, I'm working her into a story if you couldn't tell). I adore her meet dress, it's so beautiful! I also got her accessories and I love the miniature cross necklace. There, really, is nothing about her that I don't like. I've taken a lot of pictures of her with my digital camera, and I've still got to install the software once I get my PC up, so I'll post them at some point. A+ easily. ETA (10/4/20): I've since transitioned my Nellie to be a German Jewish girl from 1980s East Germany (Leipzig, to be specific) and have better pictures of her to share: http://instagram.com/p/CD_z9ICMWHR http://instagram.com/p/CEUTn7UMGmt http://instagram.com/p/CF2TV0csVNF I think she works well in any era!

What I like about Nellie is she's actually pretty close to how she's pictured in the books. I think her meet dress looks much nicer on Samantha, possibly because Samantha is darker colored and therefore there is a better contrast. Edit: Samantha in Nellie's Meet dress The accessories The coin: it's a standard AG historical coin; I've lost it. I've lost them all. Purse: no quality concerns, doesn't really go with anything but the meet dress. Hat: Same goes for this for matching. I think it works for when Samantha is in the Piney Point attic and her and the twins are wearing all the fancy hats. Hankercheif: It has raised white embroidery, which I'm not sure you can see it from the catalogue pictures. It is rather intricate, this may be my favorite part of the set. I also like that is quite different from Samantha's. Necklace: A very pretty item and my Nellie wears it with everything, like Addy's cowrie shell necklace. Accessories Grade: a solid A

I bought Nellie and her Holiday Coat in early November, and I have to say that I am really impressed with this little girl!
The doll Nellie is absolutely gorgeous. What I love most about her is her actual features. The Josefina mold makes her all the more adorable. Her eyes are beautiful deep blue, and her freckles are just wonderful. Her hair is a golden-red colour (she is not at all your typical flaming redhead), and could be easily mistaken for blonde. It is easy to manage, versatile despite its length, and can be arranged into many styles. The Outfit Nellie’s outfit is definitely the nicest of the best friend ‘meet’ outfits. The dress is really well made, with two layers of fabric for the entire outfit (the sheer Swiss dot is laid over sky-blue material). However, her tights snag very easily. Also, the shoes are terrible - like massive rubber paddles. I actually ordered Samantha’s Shoes & Socks to fix these problems (both the tights and shoes). The Accessories Again, I think that these accessories are some of the best that American Girl offers. The hat is gorgeous, and of very high quality. Her purse, handkerchief, and Irish penny are also cute. By far the best part of this set is the Celtic cross – it looks great with all of her outfits.
All in all I would grade this doll an A. The only thing that prevents her from receiving an A+ is that I personally prefer a doll with longer hair. If AG had given her long, wavy golden-red hair she would have been off the charts. Nevertheless, an adorable little girl!

Nellie was my third doll, given to me on my 11th birthday in 2006. I guess you can say I got her in the middle of production, as she was released in 2004 and discontinued in 2008. Anyway, Nellie is a stunning doll - so different from all of the other girls sold by AG. I absolutely love her deep blue eyes with the light blue meet dress, sort of similar to the way Kirsten's light blue eyes are brought out with her dark blue meet dress. Her hair is very short, cute, and easy. I have no problem getting it back into the style it was in when I got her. The only problem with the dress is that the oils from your hands stain the cloth in areas where she is frequently held (for me, that's on the lower part of the sleeves), but I don't really mind. Grade A. I never give the dolls A+.

I've wanted Nellie since she came out a few years ago, but wasn't actively collecting AG at the time, and passed her up. With my recent AG collecting revival, I was disappointed to find that she had been retired around 6-8 months ago. Through Ebay hunting however, I managed to find a very gently used doll for a good price, and Nellie finally joined the doll family as my third doll. I thought the pictures I'd always seen of Nellie were always darling, but she's even more adorable in real life. Her hair has a nice volume to it, and it an easy to take care of length, not to mention it's a nice colour. Her face detail is beautiful, and her eyes are a very pleasant dark blue. I like her 'meet' outfit for the most part, except I feel that the colour looks too washed out, and needs to be more blue - a periwinkle colour would have been nice. I'm not too keen on her shoes, but eh, that's the least of my complaints. Her tights are really easily snagged on the velcro of her dress, which is a little annoying, but I don't think much can be done about that. I really like her accessories. They all seem to be high quality, especially the hat and purse. Overall, I give Nellie an A+!

Nellie is a stunning doll! I love her freckles, short hair cut, and dark blue eyes. She is gorgeous! I got her when the "archival" was announced and I don't regret getting her. Nellie is a precious little sweatheart! I didn't get much of her Edwardian era clothing, except her coat and PJ's, so she spends time as a modern doll. She looks great in the Tunic and Jeans outfit, the turquoise shirt looks amazing on her. Her meet outfit is adorable too. I like the big bows at the waist and in her hair. A+ from me!

My Nellie dresses modern most of the time since I don't have any other clothing from that era. I have a picture, I'll upload it right now... Here she is with Ruthie. I think she looks really good in modern clothes! I especially love her in this shirt, the teal color brings out her eyes. Mod edit to remove deleted image links
