Kit's Homemade Scooter was introduced in 2006 and retired in 2018. It was rereleased in April 2023 under the branding of Kit's Birthday Collection.
Early description: An old orange crate and a little imagination become a one-of-a-kind Kit creation: a crate scooter. Use the hand straps to secure Kit as she sails through the neighborhood on shiny wheels, delivering eggs door-to-door. There’s even a place for Grace the basset hound, who howls with delight each time Kit brakes for a delivery. Includes trading cards. $24
Birthday Collection description: With a little imagination, Kit fashions this one-of-a-kind scooter from an orange crate and discarded roller skates. Includes: A functional scooter with shiny rolling wheels, a green handlebar with straps for Kit to hold, and an “orange crate” frame with “Kit” and “Grace” painted on it, A special cubby and window to allow Kit’s dog, Grace, to tag along. $50
Kit’s Homemade Scooter $24 QSCT
Grade: B+
This set includes Kit's scooter and a set of trading cards.
This item is oh so cute! I really love it. It is a nice size for the dolls, and the colors are very pretty. It rolls nicely and seems sturdy enough for play.
I do wish the scooter was made of wood. It is really obvious that it is plastic. It really seems cheap if you have it near any of Kit's "real" items. All of the plastic has a wood grain texture. The handle bar and foot board come closer to passing for wood than the crate it's self does .I can only assume it was made of plastic so it would be better for play. I also worry that the chrome look will wear off of the wheels with a little use.
It also really bothers me that they made a place for Grace to ride between Kit's feet. Grace was an adult basset hound. Based on the pictures of Grace in the book, I would not think she would have fit on a scooter with Kit. However, She does look really cut peeking through that window.
Also, I do not remember there ever being a scooter in any of Kit's stories. A red wagon and basket of eggs would have been a better choice for AG to make, in my opinion.
B+ It would have been an A+ if it were made of wood. Bonus points for keeping it affordable.
