This outfit was worn by Molly in the book Changes for Molly as well as the movie Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front. It was originally sold in 1990 as part of the Winter Activities set. It was removed from that set in 1998, and starting in 1999, it was sold separately For $20 as Molly's Miss Victory Costume. It was revised in 2006 and increased in price to $28, and the name changed to Molly's Tap Outfit in 2008. In late 2009 the taps on shoes are plastic, and in January 2012 the price increased to $32. The outfit retired in December 2013 when Molly's collection was archived.Miss Victory Costume 1999: Molly loves going to her tap dance class, and hopes her teacher, Miss LaVonda, will pick her to be Miss Victory at the “Hooray for the U.S.A.” show. That way, she can wear the sparkly Miss Victory costume with its matching skirt and shiny star headband.
Miss Victory Costume 2006: Molly loves going to her tap dance class, and hopes her teacher, Miss LaVonda, will pick her to be Miss Victory at the “Hooray for the U.S.A.” show. That way, she can wear the sparkly Miss Victory leotard with its matching skirt, shiny star headband, socks, and tap shoes. Includes trading cards.
Tap Outfit 2011: Molly can't wait to wear the Miss Victory costume: a sparkly leotard with a matching skirt, a headband, anklets, and tap shoes.Original Pleasant Company versionI won this outfit for $11.50 + shipping on ebay. It is tagged Pleasant Company 2008. I really like this outfit and I think it is so cute! The fabric is shiny and satiny like a dance costume should be. The little star on front is made from heavy paper/posterboard and sticks out from the dress part. The sleeves are very tight, which I understand is a characteristic of this dress. I had to tug to get the sleeves right to get the dress velcroed in back. It comes with little panties to wear underneath made from the same material as the dress and they meet Taffy's expectations having elastic in the legs. The crown is made from heavy paper/posterboard type material and is shiny and sparkly. It is very flimsy and creases easily. The fabric in the dress seems to snag easily as well but it's a dance dress and likely Molly won't wear it often. Grade: B+ for not coming with shoes and being tough to get on and flimsy material in the crown.

I have the AG version that was on sale for a while. The crown is flimsy and it is not made out of anything that heavy. The sleeves are tight on my Molly and she will never be able to raise her arms in this outfit. I like that the skirt is pleated. The material feels different. I don't know materials so I could not speculate. It is not as stiff as I thought it would be. I love the little blue bloomers taht come with it. They are very cute. I wish it came with tap shoes and socks. Bummer that it doesn't. My Molly looks more like a super hero than a tap dancer...

Original Pleasant Company version I think this outfit is really cute- the only thing i don't care for is the fabric it is made out of. It is to stiff! I wish it was made with more of a flowy fabric lilke a satin or something. Grade: B

Mattel version Love Love LOVE this outfit! When I got my Molly I thought of the first outfit she must have and its this one. I promise to post a pic or 2 soon when i get my phone back. I will rate it an A-. The only real flaw i saw was the crown because it was made out of paper with a stretchy band. It could get bent, ripped and ruined.

Mattel version reviewsI just got this today and it looks as if it has changed from the original. Mine came from AG in an exchange and the main part of the outfit is a leotard, not a shirt and bloomers. The ends of the sleeves and the piping around the neck is just gray, not the combination of red and gray as seen in the above picture. The skirt waistband is now gray and not red.
It came with one white pair of socks and her little black patent tap shoes. The tap shoes are very well done. I'm entertaining myself sitting here clanging them together. The black bow on the front of the shoe does not tie. It's just decoration over top of the elastic.
Headband is still flimsy paper attached to elastic around the back of her head.
Overall I give it an A. If they were going to just attach paper to elastic, they could have left out the crown/headband. They put more effort into the headband for the sweet sequins accessories than they did this. Molly's Miss Victory Costume - MattelGrade: C+ Pro's: Well, I guess it's cute! (ok.... only sort of) Con's: Didn't fit. Cheap material. I dislike it very much. Detailed Review: I bought this outfit direct from American Girl on sale and was extremely disappointed. The outfit did not fit my Molly (she is Pre-Mattel) and the fabric is stiff and gross! It's very cheap. I was expecting better quality for my money, and judging by the poor quality I will take my $$ elsewhere.... This should be made in a Satin/silk type fabric that flows! How is Molly suppose to dance in a pristine, starched dance costume? It's just silly! I returned the outfit. Maybe the Pre-Mattel version is better than the Mattel one.
Mattel versionMy costume was purchased from AG last week. It has a leotard and skirt like described above. I actually like the material it is made of and don't think it is too stiff. The leotard feels like a real gymnastics leotard and the piping isn't exactly just gray. It has small flecks of silver in it; I will try to take some close-up pictures. The star is sewn on well and is very shiny. The skirt is well-made and not too short. It also fits my Molly pretty well (she is transitional). The socks are thick and stretchy; I like them better than her meet socks. The tap shoes are the best part of the outfit! The taps on the bottom are real metal and the "leather" (I don't think it's really leather) is very shiny. The only disappointment is the crown. It is made of thin paper that seems like cardstock. I was worried it would get crushed, so I stored it in my bookcase. It's also difficult to get it to sit on Molly's hard properly. I finally did it, but only with the help of many bobby pins. This outfit is an important part of Molly's stories (even if she didn't get to be Miss Victory) and I think it is a good addition to her collection. A+ Pic of just leotard: Close up of taps: Top of shoes: Front and back of crown: The socks are similar to the ones with Molly's rollerskating outfits, but shorter. Rollerskating sock on the left and Miss Victory sock on the right: Molly in just the leotard: Fully dressed: Crown pinned to Molly's head:

This outfit was a gift for my daughter from her Godparents for Christmas 2009. We got lucky, AG is in the process of changing all of the taps on the bottom of the shoes to be plastic, ours are metal. This is an overall great set, but the flimsy crown does frustrate my dd, because she can't get it to stay on properly without smooshing Molly's bangs down... we ended up using bobby pins to hold it in place. Also, Molly can not wear her underwear under this outfit. Overall, I give this outfit a conflicting review... It gets an A+ for play value (especially since we have the stage - our Molly' is always performing) - but the crown gets a solid D. D~

I got this today from AG. I absolutely adore it! It's so cute. I've seen older versions on eBay that didn't come with the tap shoes. I really wanted the tap shoes, so I decided to get this directly from the source...and I wasn't disappointed. My Molly looks so cute! Unlike earlier versions of this outfit, the fabric is nice and soft, and not stiff at all. It also gets big points for using the non-snagging Velcro. This kind of fabric is notorious for snagging easily.
The crown is still cardboard attached to elastic. This isn't a problem for me, but for people who buy this for kids, be warned that the crown probably won't last long. Also, as much as I love the shoes, I had a hard time getting them on over Molly's socks. Maybe she'd be better off wearing tights of some kind with this outfit.

I got this at the AGP over the summer. I absolutely LOVE it. The Miss Victory scene is one of my favorites in both the book and the movie. My one complaint is that the crown slides a little, but other than that, a great buy. It will be Emily's Halloween costume, but here's Natalie modeling it after I got it:

I have a fat little PM Molly and the Mattel version of this outfit. Thus, the shoes won't fit with these socks- her meet ones, however, work fine.
I, too, think the shoes are the best part of this outfit! Simply adorable.
I also really like the crown though. I'm not sure why everyone else is so down on it. It's very cute and fits her great.
I think the skirt is perfect but the leotard could've been made better. I also prefer the older version's star colouring.
Overall, A+ for this cute dress!

Here are Molly and Maggie (TS Molly) wearing the original Miss Victory dress & matching bloomers. I don't have the crowns that came with these outfits though.

I have the Very First Original PC Version of the Molly Miss Victory Tap Outfit. This came with the Winter Activities, in a PC white box. Both the outfit and the 'Sick-in-bed' items were packaged together. I have both and will review here separately. I love this version. It is the soft satin, which flows and drapes on Molly just like a 1940's version should. The blouse has the silver/white satin star, going from the upper left towards the lower right side of the top. This is like the original 1987-1990 version of the Molly books, before the illustrations were changed by PC The skirt is separate and all three colors (red, white and blue). It has a Velcro tab in the back. The waistband is red. The panties are made from the same soft blue material. The hat, there is a 'Silver 3 Star Crown' with the set. The paper was not like the more modern holographic silver paper. It was just silver, with the elastic back. There were NO shoes. You were to use the original Gotz Black plastic shoes. Overall Rating: A+ I really like the set. It was the most "Patriotic" ensemble that was made by PC for Molly. To me it was the personification of the 1940's and the high point of Molly's books and movie.
