This outfit was worn by Molly in the book Molly's Surprise. It is also worn by Molly in the movie Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front. It was introduced as the Evergreen Velvet Dress in 1986. In 1993 the design was changed to include decorative white pearl buttons on the front of the bodice, in 1995 the description of the dress changed from "snow white lace" to "ecru lace," and in 1997 the description of the bows changed from "white" to "cream." In December 2008 the name of the outfit changed to Christmas Dress. It retired with Molly's archival in 2013.Molly’s Christmas dress of evergreen velvet has collar and cuffs of snow white lace, and white pearl buttons down the front. Styled with a princess waistline, it’s full circle skirt twirls when Molly spins around. It comes with crisp white bows for her braids. Even her pesty brother Ricky must admit Molly looks beautiful in this outfit. This is a review of the Mattel version of Molly's Christmas dress. This dress is made of a really nice thick velvet material. I've never seen the PM version in person, but I'm pretty sure it measures up quite nicely to the feel of the PM version. This Mattel version also features a full round skirt that twirls when she spins around. The only difference is that the Mattel version features six buttons that go down the front of the bodice, which I think adds a nice touch. The lace is also different, which doesn't make it look as nice as the previous version but it doesn't really make it look any worse (if that makes sense). Regardless of the lace, it's still a very lovely dress and worth buying for any doll. This dress can never go out of style. It includes cream colored ribbons for her hair. Grade: A Full skirt makes for a beautiful curtsy.Buttons down the front.Close-up of the lace.ETA: my grade, duh.

This is one of my favorite Molly outfits, as well as one of my favorite holiday outfits. The green is a nice contrast to the red seen in so many others. It looks very cute on Molly. I wore many dresses with a similar style growing up. In fact, the dress that I would have bought for my senior prom had I attended it was also green velvet with buttons on front and puffed sleeves, although somewhat fancier and more grown-up.
I give this dress an A+

I think this version is a definite improvement over the first one. The buttons provide a nice detail and the lace is much more delicate. This dress is just beautiful.

*This outfit was worn by Molly in the book Molly's Surprise*Evergreen Velvet Dress I Item #MCO $22 (price increase from $24 to $28 January, 2012) "Molly’s Christmas dress of evergreen velvet has collar and cuffs of snow white lace. Styled with a princess waistline, it’s full circle skirt twirls when Molly spins around. It comes with crisp white bows for her braids. Even her pesky brother Ricky must admit Molly looks beautiful in this outfit." I have one of the versions of Molly's 1st Christmas dress. I know they changed the lace a few times on this dress, so please post your pictures of this PM dress here if you have different lace! I love the thick feel of the velvet dress. It's so elegant on Molly. The skirt is a full round skirt, so she can twirl around (like she does in the books.) The cotton lace is very subtle around the dress's collar and sleeves. It's just enough embellishment to make it look very stylish for a 9 year old girl in the mid 1940's. The original set came with cream colored hair ribbons, but I like Molly to wear the green ones that came with her plaid jumper and blouse. I don't know how the newer version measures up to the quality of the thick feel of this dress, but I certainly love this version. Grade A. This dress is one of the reasons that I picked Molly as my first AG doll. I got this dress in 1994, pre-Mattel. It's a beautiful, high-quality dress. I wanted the one for me too, but mom couldn't afford the $95 price tag. 30s 40s Christmas 3 by Elizabeth, on Flickr A+++ SailorMolly

This is a cute, classic dress that is perfect for Molly. It's a nice deep green with cream lace and buttons on it, and two hair ribbons for Molly. There is con to it, which is that, because it's velvet, can attract fur/dust. I give it an A!

I really like this dress, it is made of high quality velvet, and it's perfect for Molly's time period. I must say that I like it more now than when we first received it - it's definatly grown on me. Occasionally, we have issues with the white collar portion laying flat, so I mist it with a little bit of water to get it to lay down. Overall I give this dress an A! The quality is just amazing, and the fit is perfect. D~

I found this on eBay for Molly a few months ago, and I absolutely adore it. The color's gorgeous, and the buttons down the front are a major improvement on a dress that seemed a little plain when I was a kid. Molly can't wait for Christmas so she can wear it again!

This is my most favourite Historical Christmas dress. It fits perfectly on Molly. Beautiful dark green velvet, pearly buttons and beautiful cream lace trim makes this dress gorgeous. Cream coloured ribbons are included. My rating is an A+ for this lovely outfit.

I recently won this oufit in a huge PC Molly lot in which the seller had many 1st version items. She said she bought this dress right after they added the buttons. I love the quality of the dress, it's very thick and fit's my dolls perfectly! A++

I have a Mattel version of this dress. My Molly is a PM, so it's pretty snug on her, but I agree it is gorgeous, even though the velvet tends to attract pet hair.

I love these dresses. I say that because I have both versions. The oldest is so soft and silky. The white lace is thick and full. A really beautiful dress. I give it an A+The second edition is also a beautiful dress. It is not as soft. But, it has a great feel, hey, like velvet. The lace is different (also not as thick) and there are a row of buttons down the front. This is an A, but, only because I have both and prefer the first edition.

I love my Christmas Dress. The dress itself is quite solid, yet cute. It could be something that dust clings to, but that hasn't been an issue yet for me. I love the buttons and lace; while I used to think they were somewhat over the top, I now think that they are really what completes the dress. I also love the full skirt. The ribbons are also adorable tied on Molly's braids. Overall, I give this outfit an A.

Nice style of dress. It complements Molly well. I love that it's a full circle skirt. The lace on the neckline doesn't always want to stay down. I am conflicted by the velvet. It looks and feels pretty. But attracts so much dust, lint, and general fuzzies.
