Molly wears this sweater in the movie Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front. It was introduced in 2006, the price increased from $24 to $28 in January 2012, and it retired with Molly's archival in December 2013.
Ice skating was as popular a pastime in Molly’s time as it is today. Prepare Molly for an afternoon at the ice rink by dressing her in a hooded jacket with snowflake embroidery and a red flannel skirt with matching underwear. Includes trading cards.
I was surprised to see no review up for this yet! Anyway, this is a really cute outfit. The red skirt and matching spankies are really cute and well-made. They are made of a thick flannel/felt material with a smoother underside. The skirt closes with velcro and the spankies are just pull ons with elastic. The jacket is made of a more fleecy type matierla with embroidered snowflakes and closes with buttons. The buttons are actually not difficult to open and close, a rarity for AG buttons! I really like this set, which I bought for my Emily and she looks just adorable in it. I give it a solid A.

I'm going to have to disagree with the above poster, unfortunately. Grade: C What it costs: $24 What I'd pay: $18-20 While at first glance this outfit seemed adorable - especially paired with Molly's fur-lined ice-skates and ear muff - after getting this outfit home and taking it out of the box, I found myself discouraged with the quality of the materials. Another point against it was the cost - for $24, all you get is the sweater, skirt, and spankies. It really comes with hardly anything, even if you factor in the trading cards, to justify the price. Especially since you have to pay a lot for the skates, as well! After being impressed with the quality and charm of Emily's Snowsuit, this one threw me for a loop. Why is one outfit so great while the other is sub-standard? The Good: - The idea of the outfit is cute, and the sweater design and colors are adorable. The Bad: - The material for the sweater is as stiff as a board. It could be cheap wool or expensive felt, but either way it is over-starched. The inside isn't lined, and seems are clearly visible. - The skirt and spankies are even worse than the sweater. They are of a flimsy, felt-like material that was already wrinkled in the box. The fabric reminded me of something you would find in the dollar section of Jo-Annes, or something someone would use if they wanted a cheap costume - it was not fabric that is considered acceptable for every day clothes at all. The underwear was made of the same thin materials. - $24? What are you paying for? Embroidery? It makes no sense! Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures. I was so disappointed in the outfit I returned it. Maybe if it had been less expensive I would have been willing to put up with the problems, but in my mind I just couldn't justify owning it over some of AG's much higher quality outfits.

Moved from a different post: Molly's skating outfit is separate from her skates. Like Molly's meet skirt, it attracts a lot of lint and dirt. The coat is the same way. The skirt has a little pants that go under her skirt. That's all the outfit has. The skates in the skate set are very high quality. It also comes with very flimsy ear muffs. Mine broke. And it comes with a muff. I'd give it four stars.

I really like this outfit for Molly. I like that the jacket is embroidered. Our buttons are fine - fairly easy to open and close. My one and only complaint about this outfit is that it does attract dog hair (just like many of Molly's items - so it's not unique that way). We paired our outfit with the Midnight Holly accessories (from the 2007 Holiday outfit), because I just can't justify buying Molly's skating accessories if we already have something similar. However, once we have everything else of hers, I might consider it - since we'd like to complete her collection. Overall, I give this outfit an A! D~

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of my Molly in this outfit, because I eventually returned it. But just a heads up - if your Molly is a PM doll, this outfit might look awful on her. At least, it did on mine. It made her look like a big-butted, broad-shouldered misfortune (which technically she is, but it's not nice to say so). So if you are getting it for an older Molly, be sure and hold on to your receipt.

I really was on the fence about this outfit because it looked like it was made out of flannel. That is the one medium I can use for doll clothes. But it was on a Spotlight Special plus another deal on top of it, so I went ahead and ordered it.
I have a lot of accessories that go with this outfit so I didn't need much. THe outfit is adorable with tights, the mix and match possibilities are great. I really like the embroidered jacket. Wish there were a shell or something under it included, but we had that covered . I also felt that tights are a necessity with this outfit as well as mittens. I had all of those things and a muff and skates as well, all off brand, so the outfit really just made it the set.
Worth the sales price. The skirt looks good with the meet sweater too. I give it a B+ for the price. With tights instead of the panties, and a pair of mittens, I would have given it a solid A. B- for the non sale price which is steep to me. At that price, there should have been a shell included too.

Excuse the bad lighting - my snowy day photos taken early in the morning had really bad light. I think Ruthie looks great in this outfit. Ruthie's Snow Day by JLP2000, on Flickr

I bought this outfit for the jacket alone. At $24 it was pricey but after looking at it for ages I finally hit the 'buy' button. My modern Bree loves her new jacket! It fits very well over a tee and even my arthritic hands can button the buttons. The material is sturdy and the embroidery is well executed. The skirt and undies will get use with tights and other tops. My grade is a solid A for wonderful mix and match potential.

I love this outfit, but my one complaint is if your doll's wearing a shirt, it's hard to button the jacket over it. (See example with my photo of Kailey wearing it.) I love it though. It makes for a great winter outfit. It looks great with Molly's meet beret!

Grade: B- What I'd pay: $18
I like the outfit, but if I hadn't received it as a gift....It would be going back. As far as historical use, would Molly have a whole "Skating" outfit? I think she could wear her school skirt and winter coat! Anyways, I was disappointed by the lack of pieces in the set. 1 skirt 1 "coat" and a pair of spandex?! I also hate how short the coat is, and the skirt...As for the skirt, I had a hard time pairing it with anything but the coat so it doesn't get used much 'round here! Anyways, I wouldn't buy this items unless it's on sale.

I was also on the fence about this one, for the same reason as everyone else - the cost didn't seem to justify three pieces. I finally caved in and grabbed it when I saw an early version mint in the box on eBay, complete with the original perforated cards advertising Molly and Emily's winter outfits and accessories and a hanger.
I like it and will keep it, but my feelings are mixed. The skirt fits my PM Molly just fine, but the sweater is too tight over her School Outfit blouse. She can't put her arms down all the way! I had no problems with the buttons, and the fabric seemed like a nice, soft flannel to me.
Anyway, the skirt might be a nice mix-and-match piece, and the sweater's cute for the thinner Mattel girls.

All things about cost aside, I love the way it looks on Molly. The colors and style is cute.
