I received Cécile last year in February. She is a total ravishing beauty!!!! I love her serene, serious expression and elaborate hairdo. Being retired, I cherish her, even though she really isn't as valuable as say, Kathleen.
I've done some comparisons with Cécile and Elizabeth. Cécile looks like the teenage version of Elizabeth. Cécile's pin curls, earrings, dress style (lace on the sleeves, stomacher, etc.) are all similar to Elizabeth's. Both have pearl necklaces, fans, blue eyes, and blonde hair. Though Cécile's dress, I think, is closer to Felicity's Christmas dress than Elizabeth's meet dress. Cécile's dress is a pale, soft blue with lots of beautiful adornments. Love the little pearl bracelets on her wrists with cameos and the long train attached to her skirt.
Unfortunately, the fan she came with is rather small, and when I recently moved into a different room in my house, it was lost. One of her pearl bracelets also broke, though I was able to fix it pretty well for the time being.
The GOML line was wonderful. I enjoyed Cécile's book that came with her. Since American Girl is targeted more towards younger girls who are not yet mature to read books like these, I suppose that is why the line was discontinued. Cécile's book was very sad at points, and there were a lot of deaths and things like that (I don't want to spoil the book for those who haven't read it). I would have really liked Isabel and Neela, but I don't feel like bargaining with insane eBay prices.
Cécile is built like a Barbie doll, but smaller, and definitely more realistic. No inset eyes, but her painted ones are still full of emotion (in my opinion) and not blank. I believe Cécile is a little older than twelve years old...I'm not sure--her book is one of the ones on my list of re-reads. With her beautiful hair and face coloring and clothes, she looks grown-up, though. No Barbieish, bendable, cheap plastic here! Cécile, like the AG dolls, has vinyl, which gives her a considerable distance from a Barbie. I must compliment how real she looks, with the throat lines and her little hands with minuscle finger nails. Her hands are designed to hold her fan.
Finally, I heard a little while ago about green moldish stuff around the ears because of earrings? My Cécile doesn't have that (yet...). Thank goodness, since AG won't and never have replaced GOML body parts, especially now that they're retired.
In summary, I must compliment American Girl on the quality of these lovely dolls. I am upset that they discontinued them. Cécile was bought on clearance, and once I received her and realized how lovely she was, all of the other dolls were sold out.
Cécile came in a large, lovely blue box with the GOML emblem on it--even that was excellent quality! And although she grows old and has the marks of being well-admired, I will still save her and cherish her for many, many years.
I apologize if this was really long! I found this section blank and wondered if anyone had an interest in GOML, like me.
