Velveteen Coat Set
Wow, now here's something I would call classic. I got this because I owned a coat just like this as a little girl. Granted, I was 5 and not 10, but still, this is an item that will look good on almost any doll (from any decade) and will still be current in the future. It's also very high quality - it buttons rather than velcroes, and is fully lined. As cute as this outfit is, however, I think it's a little barren considering what you pay for it. It should have come with a furry hat or purse or something. The coat, boots, and useless hair bands just need something else to add a little umph.
Pros: * Classic. * The boots are easy on-off, unlike previous JLY boots in this style (read: I Like Your Style boots, or the Winter Fun outfit boots) * Buttons well, well lined, high-quality.
Cons: * You don't get a lot for the money. * The hair bands are a little pointless, especially since they are hard to use properly! Loop them twice and they're too loose, loop them three times and they are too tight! * The boots are boring, and look a lot like the Wintry Weekend boots. I would have liked half-boots or something a little more unique.
What I'd pay: $22 What it costs: $24
The Book: Can we say boring, and pointless? This book on traditions seems pretty sparse - each page is just a different tradition you and your family may or may not want to have. Like, "Game Tradition - Make Friday night a game night! Play board games and pop popcorn!" Oh, yeah, that's original, thanks!

I like how it looks less like the skirt is meant to make the coat look like a dress and more like it's to facilitate a poofy skirt underneath it, although that really makes me wonder why the doll's wearing nothing underneath it on the site. ~_~

I bought mine to use as Juanita's holiday outfit--it looks lovely just as that, by itself. Even though the picture doesn't show it because I took them out, the hair elastics are a very nice touch and look awesome in Juanita's hair.
The book that comes with it is one of the few that I've ever looked at, and its not bad.
I like this outfit as a stand alone outfit, but can also see its potential as a coat and boots set for a doll, its just pretty all around. The thing buttons up in the front like a real coat does, no velcro here. The boots are very easy to put on.

The Velveteen Coat is another great set, and it is so classic! One thing I didn't like about it was the price, it seems kinda steep for just the coat and boots. The coat is beautiful, and fully lined. The buttons are real, so there is no Velcro on the entire coat. The boots are just as cute, I love tall boots. The hair ties are really annoying, because they are too short to be pulled around the hair twice, but too loose if you only wrap them around the hair once. I'm not sure I'll use the hair ties much. Again, I would have loved this outfit to come with a little something else, like a Caroling book or a string of Christmas lights. All in all it is very cute. Grade: A- (because of the hair ties and the price).
Traveling Lily was kind enough to model the Velveteen Coat. She wore it with 2005's Christmas outfit, the black and cream one, it goes perfectly with this coat.
I got the Velveteen Coat set from a friend from AGPNY, the outfit is cute but the overall rating I would give it a: A-. The coat is cute but it is a bit short and I would wear something underneath it, it took me awhile to un-do the buttons on the jacket, but the coat is really cute! The boots were a bit difficult to put on, but you have to know the trick. And the hair elastics, if you tie them around twice, their to loose, if you tie them around 3 times, well, you can't.
The Coat - B The coat buttons up in the front, and thankfully it's not a horrible challenge to do that. So, it's a cute coat, whether you use it as a coat or just a dress (which AG seems to be marketing it as). I had my dollies naked underneath it, but I'm sure it would still fit well if they had other clothes on. Since the coat is very soft and black, I imagine that it will attract pet hair.
B because...it's nice, but it didn't wow me.
The boots velcro in the back.
The Boots - C I think it will always be difficult to put these tall boots on. It's actually harder to take them off. But they look decent enough to not get a failing grade.
The Hair Ties - C+ Like it was mentioned before, two loops is too loose, and three is a bit on the tight side. I still managed to get them to fit, though, but they get the grade they got because although I like the puffballs, I don't want to struggle that much to put them on.
The outfit in it's entirety on a brunette...
...and on a blondie. I think that this outfit looks a lot better on lighter-haired dolls than darker-haired ones. So I'm making this Julie's winter outfit, because her little gauchos aren't going to keep her warm from the harsh Ohio winters.
But, of course, once the coat arrives, the snow has melted and it's 60 degrees outside.

This little set is darling, though overpriced. Even with AG's new higher prices of the past couple years, this set includes very little for the amount you pay.
The style is classic, perfect for a holiday party or a trip to the Nutcracker. The coat is well-made, with working buttons and a silky cream-colored lining. Unfortunately, the sleeves are not generously cut, so it's not possible to wear the coat over either of this year's holiday dresses. Like FarmhouseGirl, I paired it with the Winter Magic outfit for ease of wear and general color similarities.
The hair ties are not very useful. My doll, Inky, often sports her signature Ear Poofs- and the hair ties actually worked very well as decorations. I wouldn't rely on the hair ties as a primary hair-holding device, but they work decently to spice things up.

This coat is adorable! I like that it works as a wintry coat yet can double as a holiday dress. The white boots are nice touch, although I don't tend to use them with the coat. I don't, however, like the hair ties (like others have said, they are too loose if you wrap them around twice and too tight if you wrap them around three times), and the book, "Family Traditions," is pretty pointless. It takes about five seconds to read, and then it'll just collect dust somewhere.
Sophie likes to wear the coat with Molly's earmuffs (that come with her ice skates). She also likes to pair white tights and mary janes with it as well.
My Daughter received it for Christmas last year. I have to admit, it's one of my favorites. The coat is beautiful and very well-made. I do agree that the sleeves are a little tight - they should have been cut a little wider. The boots are a lot more popular with my Daughter than the coat. They see year round playtime because they go with so many outfits.
