Ski Outfit + Charm
$28 G2198
Grade: A
Review: First, let me say that this outfit is stinkin' adorable! I received mine with the ski gear as well, and they go wonderfully together. Continuing on...
One-Piece Ski Suit:
This is really cute. The fur hood is a light blue-gray, almost the color of the Snow Flurry coat. The hood is really soft, and doesn't shed or get in the doll's face. It's hard to pull over the heads of girls with lots of hair, though, but it looks better down. The seams are adorable, they're a beautiful hot pink that contrasts wonderfully with the blue of the fabric. The seams are wonderfully and realistically placed about the suit. There's realistic arm patches for reinforcement when they "fall on the slopes," which I am in love with. The suit also has gray reinforcing patches on the inside of the calf, and around the bottom of the ankle. Again, it is a nicely contrasting gray color. It velcros from the waist up, the velcro is the less-snags kind that AG uses nowadays. The belt is cute, but very thin. It holds pretty well, as long as you don't pull on it, it doesn't slip. The inside of the suit is completely lined in a slippery fabric that is the same blue as used on the outside. The suit feels lined with a very thin bunting when you rub it between your fingers. Therefore, I am assuming that it is warm for my dollies. No seams have come loose so far, I've had this for 2 1/2 months.
Overall Grade? A (See ending)
Pink mittens with elastic cuffs:
These are the same hot pink, inside and out, as the thread used on the suit. Therefore, they look cute together with the suit. The outside fabric has the same feeling as the outside fabric of the suit: rough, like snowpants. The inside shares the feel of the fabric of the suit, too. At first, these mittens are hard to get on dolls' hands. You get used to them after a while, though, as the elastic stretches out. They look a little tacky, being bulky and extremely pink, IMO.
Overall Grade? A for extreme pinkness
Thick, knit socks:
These socks are both adorable and extremely realistic. They are thick for AG standards. The socks are a gorgeous powder blue with a gray tint. They have white cloud-like sections of wool throughout, which I think is cute. The socks fit well, don't stretch out, and stay on. (They're a little tricky to pull off, actually!) I am a skier myself, and I would wear these when I ski.
Overall Grade? A+
Charm:
Meh. It's a pretty color, and I understand that "Confidence" is good on the slopes, but... meh.
Overall...
FIT?
Suit= Snug, but good, especially around the buttocks! Mittens: Bulky, Socks: Good!
DURABILITY?
Perfect for everything so far!
PLAYABILITY?
This is what bugs me. There's little to no play value for this set if you don't buy the gear as well, because it doesn't include shoes. (GRRR) With the gear, though, it's marvelous!
VALUE?
This outfit, overall, is wonderful, and very well made. However... It does not include shoes, it has little play value, and it only includes three pieces. (Plus charm, but it's useless to me) I would say AG should mark it down to 26. But, if you buy the gear with the outfit, it's worth every last penny.
OVERALL GRADE: A
Why did I give this only an A, you ask? For a couple reasons...
1) It has little play value on it's own
2) It doesn't include shoes
3) It's very odd to me. It is a very cute outfit, but I can guarantee you that nine out of ten nine-year olds do not wear a one-piece ski suit. I was nine a couple years ago, and I thought one-pieces were babyish. The kids in the lower grades at my school all wear snowpants. I've only seen one or two kids in a one-piece. What I'm wondering is why AG made this a one-piece. IMO, a coat and pants would have sold better. Not many nine-year olds these days wear one-pieces.
Summary: Buy it if you are buying it with the gear, or if it's on sale. It's a great, quality item, and is very appealing to the eye. (And to dollie skiers!)
