This outfit is worn by Emily in the movie Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front. It was released in 2006 and retired in 2011.
Cover Emily's sequin-trimmed sleeveless dress with the sparkling cape accented with holographic stars. Position her pom-pom hat just right, slip on her socks and shiny tap shoes, and she's ready to dance her heart out! Includes trading cards.
I really like Emily's Tap Costume. This outfit looks really good with her hair and it just really is cute. The costume consists of a red velvet dress with a white satin-like skirt. There is also a really cute red hat that surprisingly sits well on her head (it is not like a baret that falls off if the wind blows. It actually goes around the crown of her head but you may want to secure it with pins if you are playing with it). And there is also a pretty red cape with 2 silver stars on the doll's right side and 1 silver star on the doll's left side. The little tap shoes come with little red bows. Overall, I really like this outfit! A+
( I have pictures but I have no idea how to get them on this thread. The copy paste function is not there.)

The hat and the cape are both made of the same red velvet as the top half of her sleeveless dress. The hat has a big red pom on the side. The hat is actually my favorite part of the whole outfit because it looks exactly like our green cloth garrison cover. If it weren't for the silver detail at the edges, it would fold onto itself like our military issued covers do. The way they have the cover pictured is technically the correct way to wear it.
There is also a pair of white socks included in this outfit.
Overall this is my favorite, even over Molly's Miss Victory costume. This seems to have been made with more care. I give it an A+!

I liked this outfit when I saw it at AGP but the tap shoes were too small for Susanna and the outfit looked a little small too and I'm not sure it would fit girls like Susanna or PM AGs. I hope someone will try it on a Goetz or PM AG to know for sure.

Is this outfit satin or velvet fabric? I plan on making it myself and bought costume satin at walmarts all I need are the silver stars and to make the pattern for Molly's skirt. I don't really care for Emily's hat so that'll be the last thing I try to figure out.

I love this outfit! I was going to wait to get it in favor of buying for the forgotten girls, but when I saw it on sale at AGPC last December I couldn't resist.
Just dressed Emily in it tonight and it looks really cute on her. The hat that stays on easily and the little red bow on the tap shoes are nice touches. I like it better than Molly's Miss Victory outfit, fits better too. I only wish it had some matching bloomers like Molly's.
Oh, to answer your question, wesew4, the hat, cape and bodice of the dress are red velvet. The skirt is white, maybe satin , but not really really shiny.

I just got this outfit & really like it except for 2 things. It definitely should have come with matching satin panties. I took tap dance lessons when I was little & can guarantee that the costumes with short skirts all had matching panties. Also, those holographic stars are completely out of place on a 1940's outfit. They probably would have been sequins. Otherwise it is appropriate & well-made. I especially like the cute tap shoes.

I'd like to make the blue version of this that the star girls wore. Can someone get some pictures of Emily's Outfit without the cape? Thanks!

I just wanted to add that the tap shoes have actual metal taps on the soles. I found them to be extra cute.

I just got Emily's Tap Outfit today - don't have Em yet but I'm trying to get most of her clothes first. I think it's incredibly cute and looks great with Molly's Tap Outfit. I had a lot of trouble getting it on though - in fact, one of the seams on the white skirt just below where the velcro ends started to rip in the process. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a trick to getting it on? I think my Molly doll is pre-mattel...I got her in early 1998, but she doesn't usually have any trouble getting into Mattel clothing.

This outfit is adorable... we especially love the hat with the pom-pom! Emily just looks so cute wearing this! We did get lucky, we purchased this outfit just on the brink of AG changing the taps from metal to plastic - we got metal and we are very pleased. Overall, this outfit gets an A+! D~

Emily looks so sweet in this outfit. The hat is really my favorite part. It is very well made. Unfortunately, I bought this second hand and don't have her tap shoes, so her meet shoes are standing in A+

While I normally don't go for dance outfits, I just had to get this for my eventual Emily before it sold out. And I love it!
The whole outfit is made very well and is adorable. The pieces are plentiful and match well. While my dolls don't wear this a whole lot, I think it can look adorable as a short dress, or maybe even some skating dress to pair with Molly's Skating Outfit.

I can only speak for the tap shoes, but they are super cute and have real metal taps. My mom took tap dancing and thinks they are sweet as well.
