As a former dancer and great ballet fan, I had to at least give this outfit a try.
With this outfit, you receive:
The leotard is actually fairly well-made. It has double camisole straps. It has a short attached skirt. I found this a bit annoying, as most ballet schools don't allow skirts, or limit their use to the center portion of class. However, if your dolls aren't serious dancers, this shouldn't be a problem.
The leotard fits well. When I first put it on, the neckline was quite scooped, but it just needed a bit of a tug to bring it up to the proper level.
The back of the leotard has a small American Girl logo. At AGP New York, all of the display dolls were wearing the leotard backwards- with the logo on the front. The catalog and website both show the outfit with the logo in the back. Furthermore, when you look at the outfit, the panty portion of the leo is cut so that the logo goes in back.
The tights are standard issue AG tights, though they seem smoother than previous versions.
The ballet slippers are a bright pink, unlike the previous outfit, whose slippers were a lighter ballet pink. These ballet slippers also have small bows. In most ballet schools, students are required to tuck these bows in. You can do that with with these shoes, but it makes them look a bit lumpy. Another problem with the shoes is that they have the elastics sewn onto the outside of the shoe, instead of the inside. Like the 2-in-1 shoes, they do have full soles made of a brown material, which is more accurate that the ballet slippers included in Marisol's outfit and the Swan Lake outfit.
The leg warmers are similar to the those from the previous outfit, but they seemed tighter. They are also bright pink, again in contrast to the previous outfit's lighter, ballet pink.
The tutu is a plain pancake tutu made of four layers of tulle. I don't care for it because a young girl in a good studio would not be wearing a tutu at such a young age. However, it is not ugly. The one awkward bit is that you can see the leotard's attached skirt through the tutu, as it is not removable.
Overall, this is a good outfit. It's better than the 2-in-1 outfit in that it includes tights, but in every other area, it falls short. The 2-in-1 is more accurate and doesn't have the annoying American Girl logo and attached skirt.
