Entertainment Set - released Summer 2007
Item# F6736
$40
I don't have this, but I did check it out at American Girl Boutique and Bistro in Atlanta because I was interested in purchasing it. I did not.
The set is completely plastic. That was my first drawback. It looked like a cheap mass market toy. The little items that came with it are very cute though: The little remote and the little DVD cases with the micro-sized pretend DVD's.
However, don't be fooled by the three DVDs. None of them play anything. They are just plastic pretend DVDs like those little CD's that came with Lindsey's lap-top. I think they might have been able to slide into the front of the DVD player on the set, but I couldn't get the DVD player to open at all. It might have been broken because lots of shoppers had been playing with it, or maybe it's not supposed to open.
The images you see on the screen are just flat slides that you slide in from the top of the TV screen to view the particular DVD that you've chosen. There is one slide of Marisol, one slide of Kailey and one slide of the Hair DVD.
That's it. No moving pictures, no sounds. I do think it might light up from the back because it does require batteries, but, again, I couldn't find any on/off switch on it.
Cute if you think your dolls need to spend time staring at a still shot of a different doll doing nothing. But definitely not worth $40.
Grade C.
UPDATE: We now have this in our collection. I found one for $20. It's worth that price. The slides of Marisol, Kailey and the Hair DVD were the clincher for me. They are so cute!
The lighting is poor and it's easier to see the slides without it on. The DVD player is not connected to the set, so it can be removed. Neither the buttons on the DVD nor the remote are functional. The little remote is easy to lose!
