Tortoiseshell Oval Glasses (1996-2006)

I recived these glasses as a replacement for her original ones which broke. They are very well-made and the lenses are really unbreakable. It is rather hard to get them to sit right on her face though. I find it works best if you put them where you want them and then style your dolls hair. I also think they are slightly lighter in color than they were. I had another pair before this and I remember them being darker. I give these and A; it would have been an A+, but they are hard to position.

OH MY!!!! I am finding keeping these on my dd's molly SO difficult! We just got them today and she ended up dropping them while we were in the store and we are so thankful that someone found them for us but...they have been difficult. Lisabell mentioned that she made a glass catch string for hers with some child's elastic hair ties and I think I will be making a set for molly too!

I wonder if the reason that they don't work so well is because we aren't putting them on a JLY doll...my dd wanted them for her Molly b/c they match her glasses, but maybe they fit JLY dolls better. Hmmmm....

Other than that, they are SUPER CUTE!!!

These glasses were around BEFORE the AGT/JLY dolls, and they're supposed to be identical to Molly's glasses, but tortoiseshell instead of silver (there was also a gold pair available).

I've found that none of the glasses fit the Josefina mold very well, but since you only have the original mold, it's like just because the glasses are crummy. Try fussing with how the arms fit above the ears and if they can be wedged into the wig any.

I own a set from 1996 that was a handmedown from a school friend.

One thing that I noted was that the bridge of the glasses is straight. I'm not sure if this is still the case.

I would give these an A+ for durability since my friend and her sister before her both played with them as kids and the glasses are still almost newlooking.

I also have a problem with them falling off, but I think this is because the PM #16 they were originally put on had a fatter head than the Mattel #17 who wears them in my house, so they were stretched out a bit.

All in all: an A grade.

On Molly, I find it helpful if you put the glasses in and then braid her hair around them. This is how I keep them on my Molly.

I own a set of these (they came in a lot) and they're very well made. I have trouble keeping them on my Haley, but that's possibly because a PM doll wore them before that.

My cousin got a pair of these back in 2002, but her Mattel pair was not made of wire, nor was it thin like those shown here. Hers were made of sturdy, transparent tan plastic colored like tortoiseshell. I thought they were really great and wanted a pair of my own. A-

I could have sworn these glasses first debuted with the GOT line... up until then you could only get Molly's glasses separately, but I was so excited when they made glasses that looked like mine, and once I finally got Marjorie (#20), I got her these glasses. Mine are from 1996, and still going strong!

I definitely think these glasses look better on PM dolls. Something about the shape of the face, I guess. Anyway, I really love them but I have to be very careful with Marjorie's because I can't replace them.
