This outfit is worn by Caroline in the book A Surprise for Caroline. It was released in 2012 and retired with archival in 2015.Caroline loves to play outdoors in frosty winter weather. She bundles up in this wool-blend coat, featuring a furry white collar, velveteen accents, and bright brass-tone buttons. A matching cap with a velveteen bow and a wide brim keep her warm from toes to top!Caroline's coat is a deep sapphire color, with velvet accents and tiny metal-look (but made of plastic) buttons. The top straps and belt close with velcro in addition to the coat itself. The only thing that bugs me is that the buttons used have a fairly "deep" back on them, and thus tend to wiggle or hang down like a loose tooth. There's also a bit of black thread holding them onto their straps, and it protrudes on the back side and looks messy. Otherwise it's so, so darling! I had a hard time getting the coat over another outfit, so shamefully, my doll went commando underneath! The coat is long though, so no one will ever know. The hat is also cute, with a miniature velvet box surrounding the faux fur brim. It actually fits ONTO the doll's head, unlike Rebecca's funky hat! Rosalie with nothing under coat: Quilla with MyAG angora sweater and skirt Hanukkah set underneath (could barely close it):

I have not put this on a doll yet, so see the above review for fit. I think the color is just stunning, and would look good on any doll. The coat and hat are made of a thick wool. The hat has velvet and faux fur trim, and the coat has velvet trim. I am very impressed with the quality of both pieces.

This coat and hat set is simply special. It immediately reminded me of Samantha's white hat and muff, which I always drooled over as a kid because it was so elegant. Well, this set has gone above and beyond. The thick wool will keep Caroline toasty, and the sumptuous velvet accents and brass-colored buttons are just perfect. The fur on the collar and hat is white and soft, but short enough where it won't get matted or ratty with age. I appreciate the fact that the band isn't too tight, so it can fit over curls and hairstyles with minimal damage. The hat and coat paired with the Ice Skating Set is absolute magic! A++ again. Sorry to be boring, but I can't say anything bad about anything in Caroline's wardrobe! scarlett1854

This outfit is so cute! I agree that it was no issue to fit it over any of Caro's clothes. The dark blue is simply stunning. It would look great on any skin tone.
Pictures soon hopefully

More pics of the set on Caroline: This is a very beautiful and accurate set. This actually wouldn't have been called a coat in 1812, it is a pelisse. I love the military styling, especially since the story takes place during war times! The coat is very nice wool material, the color is delicious and vibrant. It isn't lined like on the book cover but it is still very thick and nicely made. I don't mind the velcro, it makes it easier to fasten. The buttons are brass-toned versions of the buttons on her spencer, oddly enough. I don't like how the straps on her coat don't match the belt. The top two straps (and the one on her hat) are blue velvet ribbon, while the belt is blue velveteen that is a different shade, enough to be annoying. IDK why they did that (honestly, the belt isn't even really necessary). I don't like that the buttons are in a different position either. The hat was odd to me out of the box because the brim is uneven, but it looks much better on Caroline's head. It fits perfectly and doesn't smush her hair. I had no problem getting this over Caroline's holiday and travel dresses, though I haven't tried it over anything else. I have on her elbow-length gloves in this pic so I can't imagine it wouldn't fit over sleeves. I also agree with the other posters who don't think this set matches her mittens and boots, since this is such a bright blue and those are shades of brown/black that clash. I definitely give this set an A, with the + deducted for the weird belt, and I certainly recommend it!

The details on this set are great. The coat and hat are made from bight blue wool, trimmed with velvet and faux-fur like materials.
The coat is perfect for the era and situation, though the belt(s) are a bit funky. They close with velcro and are always slightly out of alignment it seems. The wool is nice but I wish it was lined to give it a bit more weight. I've had no trouble fitting it over her outfits. The cap is nice and matches the coat well.
I sometimes pair the set with Samantha's white fur muff to match the trim. The mittens and boots from the skating set are nice, but I agree don't mesh perfectly. Maybe the coat lining should have been brown striped.

Coat: A+This is one of the prettiest coats AG has made! It’s made of a dark sapphire wool with white faux-fur trim. The velvety belt and top two straps may look like buttons, but they’re actually some cleverly designed Velcro. The cut of the coat is flattering and its roomy enough to fit over any of Caroline’s outfits. I love the length of it and think it’s perfect for a girl’s coat of the era. The front opens full with Velcro, so it’s easy to get on Caroline. It looks so warm and elegant! Hat: A+The hat features the same blue wool, white trim, and navy blue velvet as the coat. The velvet makes a bow this time. It looks nice and fits Caroline’s head well. I’m hoping it doesn’t mess up her curls, but it certainly seems warm on this cold, snowy day. Good Value?I bought this for the retail price of $32, and while I sometimes think that’s a bit much for a coat and hat, this set is definitely worth it. It’s elegant, it’s made of good materials, and it looks good on every doll that I’ve seen it on. Since Caroline wasn’t out for very long, I don’t see this make an appearance on the secondary market all that often, and I’m sure it goes for more than $32 when it does. Still, it’s a nice set and worth the price more than some of the other winter sets. Overall: A+I LOVE this set. I liked it so much that I got it several years before I added Caroline to my collection. It’s simply gorgeous and while the belt and straps maybe seem a little flimsy, the thick wool, thoughtful detailing, and flattering cut more than make up for it. It’s definitely a must have if you have Caroline…or if you just want a nice winter coat for a doll with fancy tastes.

The coat is a lovely royal blue color. The overall design is really nice, but I don't like that the velvet trim at the top does not match the velvet trim at the waist. I also find it clashes with Caroline's beautiful eyes.
