This item was released in 2013 and retired with archival in 2015.Caroline names this adorable calf after the jewel in her grandmother's ring. Garnet is soft and cuddly, with a deep red coat and sleepy eyes. The calf wears a rope halter to help her get used to being led to the pasture.

I guess I wasn't expecting her(him?) to be at straight up stuffed animal. I was expecting more of a posie or sombrita type with solid legs. Don't get me wrong, he's a very nice stuffed animal, but I was expecting a little more. Also, I understand that AG wanted him to look next to Caroline like the equivalent of a calf next to a human, but it does make the other animals look kind of silly. Next to the sheep and the goat he looks like Paul Bunyon's cow come to life!

I just got Garnet today and I decided I don't like the name Garnet so I changed it to Darcy. She is soft unlike the cats and dogs and very cute! She looks either sleepy or drunk or maybe both because she has very droopy eyelids! She will be sleeping with me tonight though because of her softness! She has a long tag right on her butt and her rope looks like it could unravel easily. It takes a bit of work to get her to stand up. I give her an A just because of the rope and how hard it is to stand her up. I hope it's ok to post these links but if you want to see pictures of her go to: www.flickr.com/photos/samloveag/And if you want to see me opening her go to: www.youtube.com/user/samloveag~Sam

I got Garnet right when he came out, and he is so cute! He is unlike the other AG pets because he does not have a hard body like Coconut, Honey, etc. His legs are stiffer, but his body is soft and squishy. I love him to pieces!
A+++ from me.

My Caroline was thrilled when Garnet arrived. He is a beautiful red brown and so soft. His legs are wobbly and eyes sleepy, both befitting a new calf. He gets an A from me.

Sorry folks, but a cow that can't stand on her own four feet is going back. Soft and cuddly yes but not a good display piece. She gets a C from me

I received Garnet tonight. She's a little wobbly on her feet - but if you spread her legs a little she gets her bearing. I adore her and could not imagine parting with her now that she is here.

Garnet is a real sweetheart! She is soft and cuddly, but not so much that she can't stand up. I haven't had any trouble with her falling over, even when she was just standing on her own without Caroline standing next to her. I have absolutely no complaints. She is perfect! Grade: A+

My daughter picked up Garnet this weekend. I'd give it a B-.
Pros- our Garnet has a sweet expression, we love the plush body, and the rope
Cons- does NOT stand on own without ample help especially on carpet (moving the legs 'just so'). If this is 'display only' animal I would give it an A. But in my house all of our AG things get ample play time. My daughter has to basically prop the calf next to something. I expected a soft-ish exterior with a harder center (or wire legs) more like Sobrita. I am disapointed in the functionality of the piece.

I bought mine secondhand from another board member, and I think Garnet is really cute! I bought him to be my Lydia's pet, though, since she doesn't really belong to Caroline in the books. I'll start off with a few criticisms. First of all, this is one red heifer! It's a pretty color, but in the books, Garnet is more of an auburn color instead of the almost burgundy of the toy one...and do cows even come in this color? Secondly, I feel like she is a little bit undersized compared to the dolls, more like a large dog than a calf (I could be wrong though, I've never seen a calf in person). Finally, I could have liked some eyelashes to give the sleepy cow effect. But nitpicking aside, Garnet is still super cute! She is one of my favorite AG plushies - in fact, she feels like a real stuffed animal and is a good size for cuddling! My mom and sister really liked her too. She is a little difficult to balance but once you adjust her legs it gives a good effect. I noticed her legs are more firmly stuffed than her body and even have a knobby knee effect. Also, it appears to me that her rope halter could be removed by snipping some threads, and even put back on later if you wanted. I give her a B+ just because she seems small and is a little overpriced, but she is still very cute and a sweet and unique AG pet! Edited to change it to an A- because apparently young calves are this size compared to girls, and apparently they DO come in this color...Garnet looks very much like a Red Devon cow which would have been common to New England at the time. The book illustrations didn't show such a reddish cow but I think that was a discrepancy there and not in the stuffed animal.

I love my Garnet. True, I was a bit confused at first by the fact that he was so squishy. However, the legs on mine are very solid, and he stands just fine. I'm absolutely over the moon with the rich russet color of his fur. The rope halter is also very nice - not abrasive, but not too fragile. His droopy eyelids made him look like a disgruntled calf that didn't at all enjoy his FedEx journey, but this was easily fixed by fiddling with the eyelids a bit. I'd give this guy a solid A.

Garnet is so cute. I wish I had gotten her when she was available. She would work for Kirsten, Felicity, and Josefina just as well and Caroline.
