Julie was released in 2007 in her first Meet Outfit. This was revised in Fall 2014 with the BeForever revamp.Optimistic Julie Albright™ has warm, lifelike brown eyes that open and close smoothly, and realistic long, straight blonde hair styled with a tiny braid at the side. The 18" Julie™ doll has a soft cotton body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. Julie will be arriving with Ivy on Sep. 11th on my front porch. I went to the preview to view Julie and all I can say it WOW. She has silky sandy blonde hair the texture is unlike any available dolls. She has brown eyes and Joesifina's mold. I'll post pics of my girls when they arrive. I give Julie an A.

I got Julie today and she's adorable. She's much prettier in person and her coloring looks softer- In the photos taken at the AGP's she kinda looked like malibu Barbie- but her hair is not so platinum in real life. Her hair is the exact same texture as Kailey's. Love her in pigtails. She has the clipped hairs in her wig to cover the wig cap.

I got Julie today, except mine will be becoming someone else. Her hair is the same texture as JLY#25's. Shiny, slick, harder to style. Her eyes are the lighter brown, the same color as Josefina's. The combo looks very nice in person.
As someone else noted, the Julie at the preview is nothing like the actual Julie.
The only dis I can think of is her hair--it is about as bad as Kaya's in that it tangles easily. Unlike Kaya, though, Julie's hair comes down, without much of a hairstyle.
Grade: A-; the hair is what got the grade--cute, but already getting tangled.

as an update to my contributions to this review, I'd like to add some comments about the hair on Julie.
My Julie has been turned into a modern girl from another country with a different name, so I wasn't upset to see this personally, but thought I should add this for those who wish to keep Julie as a 1970's girl.
I love to mess with doll hair and style it in many ways, and Chantal (f.k.a. Julie) seemed perfect for this since her hair arrives poker straight. Well, after a night of braiding her hair and rebraiding it and after styling it this past week, I've begun to notice that the ends of her hair are starting to curl, they are no longer perfectly 1970's straight. Chantal's hair is beginning to look more like Juanita's (my JLY#25's) hair on the ends.
I haven't noticed any damage to the shine or to the texture, just that it is starting to curl on the ends.

I don't have a picture (yet) but I believe Julie and Kailey's hair are the exact same texture and extremely similar in color. Julie's is quite a bit longer though, and parted in the middle, of course. But Julie's hair is not all one color like it shows in pictures. It does not have as much 'tan' in it as Kailey's has, but it does have different colors mixed throughout it.
My Julie does have the 'shedding' quality that my Kailey has. You have to brush her hair very easily. And I couldn't make pony tails with Julie without her wig cap showing in the back. Her hair is very fine and thin.

Comparison pictures of Julie with Kailey. Kailey/Julie Kailey/Julie Julie's hair is much lighter and a bit thinner. Her skin tone is lighter and her face is, well, Josefina shaped! Kailey's eyes are just a shade darker.

So Miss Albright arrived today (well, actually yesterday, since I happened to post this at midnight), and I must say, I'm very happy with her. I know some people have concerns about her hair, but really, it's fine, although she does shed a bit more than my other dolls. If you're worried about this, just use your fingers to straighten her hair more often than a brush. About her hair. I really like it. It's very smooth, and although yes, it is similar to Barbie hair, it's still nice Barbie hair. I haven't bothered taking out her little braid, since I figure it'll look strange and kinky compared to the rest of her head, but it's cute, so that's fine. Julie is the first doll I've purchased with the Josefina face mold, and although she looks good in American Girl's official photos (surprisingly), I love her even more in person. I believe that Nethilia claimed that she wanted to kiss Julie on the lips. I wanted to do the same when I saw her. Julie arrives wearing a hair net, I guess to keep her hair from going everywhere. I didn't realize this at first, and was afraid that her hair was a tangled, ratty mess. My mistake. So if you're itching to get a pony Julie of your own-ee, I'd recommend her. She's cute as a button, even if my photos don't do her justice. Julie's very straight, butt-long hair. ETA: Julie's hair sticks up everywhere, especially if she takes a tumble (which happens a lot in those platform sandals). Someone here, I believe blondieinhiding, said that they rubbed a sheet of fabric softener over her hair, and this made her hair stay down. I tried this, and it worked wonderfully. So if you're getting annoyed with her hair flying all over, try this. Her head will also smell laundry fresh!

I love Julie. Her hair is a little on the thin side but very long and beautiful. Her eyes are gorrgeous. I would recomend Julie to anyone who likes long hair. I'd say one pro about her is that her hair is much easier to style than Nicki's, Nellie's, or Samantha's. Nellie's is too short to do much with. Nicki's is to curly and Samantha's is to wavy. Julie's is perfect. I ordered my from AG on christmas eve so she isn't here yet but I'll try to post pictures of her when she does arrive. How she scoresHair: A Eyes: B Meet outfit: B+ Face mold: A+ Originalty: A++ Overall: A+

So yes, I finally got Julie/Rose, but since no one had done a review of the meet outfit piece for piece yet, I think I'll start a new one, so just the doll here.
(mod edit to remove broken image)
Here she is. I have a new camera, but I need to work on perspective, I see. ~_~ Personally, I like the contrast of dark eyes with light hair, but I also admit if it weren't for who I was turning her into, I probably wouldn't. I think the combination makes her look sunny and cheerful, though. Her eyes are the light brown pinwheel type, rather than dark brown like my #28's. I also love this face mold and I'm glad it's getting more use. One thing I'll note that surprised me was for a Mattel doll, mine's body is unusually soft and squishy.
Her hair. As people have mentioned, it's platinum blonde and very soft. I like how it slips through my fingers like water, and I even like the color, but I admit it looks more like it came from a bottle than from nature (and I say this as a person who was a platinum blonde child). But I like it myself, although I can tell I am going to fuss over it endlessly.
This was taken right after taking out the braid, without brushing it or anything, so you can see how kinked up the hair becomes from the braid. It's pretty wavy, but not as bad as I thought.
(mod edit to remove broken image)
How I have her now. I think she makes a very sweet, mature looking modern girl, not just a throwback to the '70s myself. I am not good at playing with hair, but hers was pretty easy to manage, even with the kinks from the little braid. I'm giving her an A from my end. Boring, but she's won me over.

No photos here, yet.
I got mine for Christmas, and I love her. She's actually interesting in the books too. Her hair is kind of frizzy, but I'm going to try the fabric softener trick on it. It smooths down easily enough anyway. It does shed, but you've just got to be careful, with it. She's a lovely sweet faced doll, and I like her a lot. A (she only missed the + because her hair can be tricky to manage)

First time posting so bear with me. My daughter (8 1/2) just bought Julie to add to her Felicity and she couldn't be happier. Ironically, after reading all the not-so-great comments about Julie's hair, I have to say, her hair is precisely why my daughter chose Julie. Besides endlessly changing her clothes, the biggest thrill my daughter gets is doing her AG doll's hair. And while she originally wanted Addy, she quickly discovered that Addy's hair is just too difficult for an 8 year old to "do." So back to AGPNY we went and they couldn't have been nicer in exchanging the doll. Long story short, in my daughter's eyes (and mine), Julie gets an A+ all around.

I got my Julie for Christmas and she's a gorgeous doll! Usually, I don't like the blonde hair/brown eyes combo, but with Julie I love it.
Her hair started getting kind of knotty, so I brushed it out, and put it into a braid. It braided really quite nicely, especially since I was worried about how the side-braid she came with would make her look.
I'm pretty worried about taking the small braid out, because it'll probably look weird because the rest of her hair is pin-straight. That's another thing I adore about her. Her hair is so straight and pretty! It braids nicely in twin braids as well. I love her face shape, too.
My Julie's a modern girl, but a great thing about her being from the 70s is that X-Men came out in the 70s, and that The Who, Elvis Presley, The Sex Pistols, and the Ramones were around in the 70s (but that's just me).
Rating: A+ because she's such a wonderful doll!

My Julie came here with terrible, thin hair. I thought it was just going to be like 25's, but it's not. It was thin and always has tangles. However, her face was SO adorable. I didn't plan to keep the hair anyway. She was rewigged, and made in the Felicity's friend Beatrice/Fiona.
B- for hair, but adorable face and such.

I got Julie from AGPC in June 2008. Her hair is really silky and though it is in thin pieces, there's a lot of it. Her hair is hard to keep up, so I leave it down. This might be a problem for girls who love to do hair, but the girls I know who have her are very creative. I give her an A.

Julie, wow she is gorgeous. Her meet outfit is very nice! I love the little belt with the beads on it. Her jeans are cute too. I love the turtle neck, because it goes with lots of jeans, or can be used as a pajama top too. Her sandals are great and multi purpose, they go with about anything summery. Her dark brown eyes are very pretty, very nice. But the best part about Julie is her hair. The blonde color is great with her eyes, and goes good with her skin-tone. Its long and silky smooth, and very very soft. If you take good care of her hair its beautiful, one of my favorite wigs of any doll American Girl Company is offering. her face mold is very nice also. Suits her well. I would give her an A+ for just about everything is perfect on her and her meet outfit.

I recieved Julie as a late Christmas present last year, around Februaryish. She is so pretty, her hair is still silky smooth and soft and her hair is still in the original braid too. (I don't want to take it out!) I fell for her after reading her books because her parents divorced, and it was such a great feeling to know I finally had a doll who came from a story I can really relate too since my parents divorced. I love her face mold, but that's because I own almost all dolls with the Josefina mold since Marisol was my first and all-time favorite. (All I'm missing is #28, Elizabeth, and Chrissa)
Her outfit is cute, versatile, and includes of many pieces. Jeans that my modern girls can wear, a nice long sleeve shirt my dolls can wear alone or under T-shirts, and then the white shirt that can go over some plain colored long sleeve shirts. Her sandals are really cute too!
I also have her meet accessories and I love to have her wear them with her meet outfit!

Julie is my favorite doll of all time. Though I know many people don't particularly like her face or she doesn't look like the book, I agree it is a little odd, but she is gorgeous both ways! She was my first doll (I consider her my first doll since my first (my real first doll) I hated so much (not sure why I just didn't like her) so I like to think of Julie as her instead. She is the only one I play with at the moment, and I love her outfit. I usually put her meet jeans with tops of her other clothes because they are just wonderful. Her top can be used together, just as a sweater, or just as the shirt. A+ (times 1 billion) I ordered her right when she came out, and I'm glad I did.

i just got Julie a couple of hours ago as an early b-day gift from my grandma!!!! Julie is so beautiful but her hair net was caught/tangled in her hair and was hard to get out and took some pulling! also her hair does shed allot and i haven't even done anything with her yet. i ran my AG brush through it very softly (as i do all my dolls) and a fair amount of hair came out. i am a little worried about how much more hair she will loose over time and how often i'm gonna be bent over picking up long strands of hair off my carpet arg lol! Another thing with her hair is she has fly aways/short hairs on the top of her head, but oh well. Ok, on to the good although i'm not to happy with how her hair is made it is very pretty and i just love her face! her meet outfit is perfect and i don't really know what i would change about it i especially love the turtle neck coz its so soft i love my Julie soooo much and so do my dolls i am disappointed with her hair and this is why i give her an A i wish i could give her the "+" but her hair is just what let her down.

I love Julie! My mom handpicked her from AGPNY. She is a beautiful doll. Her hair is very long, soft, and silky. It is great for styling. Her hair is a little thin, but not bad. her meet outfit is cute, and I use to turtleneck and shoes a lot. I give her an A.

Julie was my first doll, so she's very special to me, but probably wouldn't be my first choice now that I have other dolls. I love her hair and eye color combination, but I don't like the texture of her hair, and how it's so straight. It's hard to put in some styles, like french braids. I still give her an A.

My Julie came yesterday and while her hair does seem thin it still seems to be a nice amount of it.
Her meet outfit is perfect. I love the pants and how detail the clothes is and how they feel like the real thing. Her shoes ate nice and she can stand in them. She was my first doll do I'm super amazed at the quality of everything.
Grade- A (Would be a A+ but the hair is a little Flyaway and thin. )

I once swore to myself I would never get Julie and Ivy because they weren't "real" historical characters like the others. To me it's to recent to hold the same appeal as the other characters, none the less I ordered both of them and their accessories. Julie really is a beautiful doll, much more so than I previously realized, in many ways she appears similar to Kailey but not quite. She grew on me the moment I saw her and to be honest, I am quite glad I decided to purchase her, she was well worth it and well made. Grade: A

i got mine 4 years ago But shes Still in PRETTY good conditon. Likes about this doll: I Really like her story and i think it is inspiring for Girls Dislikes: the hair, IT falls Out so Easily! Her Hair does look good in the pictures, But it falls out Really easily even with a gentle brushing, but evantually i will send her to the doll hospital for a new head just bcause of old age, flyaways, and falling out problems. Her Outfit defintley deserves an A+ even though its kind of hard for dolls to stand up in her shoes. Overall, i would give her an A-

I have had my Julie for about 2 years now and she is gorgeous. Her eye/hair combination is very pretty. I cannot get over her silky, long blonde hair which is easy to style and stunning. I removed her braid and because that section of hair was kinky, I used a flat iron on a low temperature on it and it's now just as smooth and straight as the rest of her hair. I have chosen to keep my Julie historical but I'm sure she'd look good more modern, too. Overall, a lovely, photogenic doll.

Julie is BEUTIFUL and I love her meet outfit, especially with the pants and shoes from the true style outfit. I love doing her hair, and have had no problems with chinky braids (though her hair was only in it for 2 days, it got messy quickly)

I know I have mentioned this before but I need to tell it again. I had been collecting Julie's clothes and accessories for awhile but I really didn't want Julie (or so I thought). Two years ago for our anniversary my (late) DH gifted me with Julie and I fell in love with her. DH made it so much fun because I would set the dolls up with their pets, toys, etc. and if I left the room...I would return to find everything switched around...LOL! The funniest thing was when I walked into our great room to find a human sized banana in Julie's bike basket...LOL! DH nicknamed her "Trouble" because he always claimed he had nothing to do with switching things around or the banana incident...LOL! I love her so much. DH pierced her ears for me in early 2011 and I added somelight freckles. ETA Photos:
