Grade: F
I don’t do reviews normally. This one shall stay up forever. This is Molly’s Paper Halloween Costume level of bad, Rebecca’s Summer Amusements level of bad. Likely worse.
I have most of Leah’s collection. I’ve been impressed by most of it. There’s been cute details and many items have been consistent with Lea’s books. It was nice.
Until I bought this set. The quality is on par with what you would get from a poorly designed Our Generation set at Target. Except I’m sure OG would throw in some spare bits of paper, such as napkins. AG could not even be bothered to do that much. This set is worth $15. Tops. And I’m being generous. I bought my set at Kohl’s and luckily got it for 25% off. Lucky me. If I hadn’t already opened the box up and looked at all the bits and pieces inside, I would have returned it. This set is being sold at DOUBLE what it is actually worth. This set is kale leaves in tap water sold at Whole Foods for $6 bad.
Lets get down to the badness of it all.
Picnic mat thing - this looks like it escaped from the dollar bin at All A Dollar. Mine does not lay flat; the material is cheap and seems like that with age it would crack and that would be the end of it. I will give AG credit: it will accomodate two dolls and its woven. And it is one of two pieces in this entire set that is not plastic. (insert John Oliver voice): Go you, AG! Go you!
basket - this is 99% plastic. The part that is not 99% plastic is thread. The plastic is literally on par with what OG uses in their sets. But I expect that from OG, not AG. It has purple trim along the top - I should say, painted purple. And AG couldn’t be bothered to paint the inside to match, so the inside of this horrible plastic basket is plain pink, it does not match the outside at all. The basket has two tassels on it. They are not plastic (insert more John Oliver sarcasm here). AG gave Samantha a plastic basket and that one was much nicer than this one. What gives, AG?
Brazilian pastries - more ugh. Just ugh. These are the color of cheez whiz. Not kidding. They do not at all resemble anything a human or an animal would eat. There is a whole cheez whiz shaped like Brazilian food thing, and one that has been cut into two and clumped. The insides of the clumped ones do not contain any paint or detailing to make them seem food-like. They are also large compared to many other AG and non-AG food pieces I own. These were one of the few reasons I wanted this set, and ugh. Just ugh.
Pineapple - this is identical in every way, shape and form to the pineapple sold with Kanani’s Shave Ice Stand AND the pineapple sold with Cécile and Marie Grace’s dish set. It is also the only food piece in this set that resembles an actual piece of food.
drink with straw - This is horrible also. It is thick, cheap plastic. The coconut tumbler is two pieces of shiny, horrible plastic that were glued together. The straw is a thick hunk of plastic that does not even have a hole in it. The flower is soft weird plastic and I can see a kid ripping the thing off on accident. There is a piece of sheer plastic covering the opening of the thing so the straw blob stays put.
plastic plate - more of the same - horrible, cheap, thin plastic with some detailing in it.
journal - this is a teeny, tiny thing compared to McKenna’s, Lanie’s, and Kanani’s journals and writings that came in their sets. It is tiny and flimsy. There are no cute little writings from Lea in it, despite her having her Grandma’s journal in the books and her keeping notes and writing in the books as well. it has a piece of elastic to keep it closed and a cheap plastic medallion shaped like Lea’s logo. Compared to every other character doll’s journal or books from family members, this one is complete crap. NOT worth it.
I did not get to review the brigadeiros - they were missing from my set.
I do NOT recommend this set at all. Not even to my worst enemy.
