The AG x Jeni’s Ice Creams collaboration hit the stores at the end of February and was officially released on March 2nd. It’s a great collection, and the ice cream tote set might be my favorite part of it. Here’s the official AG description, with additional thoughts and photos:
Showcase cool style and good taste with this set!
Includes: A white Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams tote with signature orange handles and trim, featuring the authentic Jeni’s logo. Three Jeni’s pints with lids and removable ice cream scoops that smell just like the real thing. Don’t forget the spoon to sample each flavor!
SKU#: HMF29 $25
First off, the tote is adorable. It’s made of off-white polyurethane with orange piping, orange handles, and the orange Jeni’s Ice Creams logo (and smaller American Girl logo) printed on the side. The relative size, shape, handles, and synthetic leather look remind me of a bowling bag, although the logo and silver interior make it clear that this is supposed to be an insulated freezer bag. It closes with a little silver zipper. I think this piece is very nicely done, and I give it an A.
Silver interior (with some pints inside):
Size relative to Joss:
Next is the ice cream. There are three pints of ice cream, each of which comes in a sturdy, well-made plastic container with a plastic lid. The containers are made of thick white plastic and have the American Girl logo imprinted on the bottom. A Jeni’s sticker goes all the way around the containers (with flavor descriptions, ingredient lists, and nutritional information), and there is another sticker on the top of the lid, that also matches the flavor inside. These seem to be miniaturized versions of the real thing, though I haven’t actually compared them. The containers and lists seem like they’re made to last, and I give them an A.
Inside each pint container is a piece of deliciously scented plastic, which is kind of flat on one side (but with swirls resembling a newly opened container of ice cream), and when turned over, resembles a triple scoop of ice cream. These fit really well in the pint containers, and can also be removed and put in bowls for play. I love the yummy sweet scents, the clever design, and the life-like look of the ice cream! This gets an A+ from me!
The flat side:
When turned over:
Flavors include Buttercream Birthday Cake - “Buttercream frosting, golden cake, and a rainbow of sprinkles.”
Gooey Butter Cake - “Cream cheese ice cream layered with crumbles of vanilla cake and a swirl of caramel-butterscotch sauce.”
Blackout Chocolate Cake - “A chocolate ice cream quadruple threat with cake, extra bitter fudge, and chocolate pieces.”
Here’s what they look like turned over in the pint containers:
And here’s what they look like in the waffle cones and bowl from the waffle cone set (NOT part of this set, but showing it anyway just so you can see how there’s just a little ridge at the bottom, but I think they still easily work with other pieces)!
The last piece of this set is a pink plastic spoon, which is shown in one of the photos above. This is a nice addition, and it’s the same size as the spoons that come with the other Jeni’s sets, but I give it a C+ as it’s nothing super special compared with the other pieces in the set.
With the adorable insulated bag, high quality pint containers, and yummy scents and appearance of the Jeni’s ice cream, this set gets a strong and easy A from me. The design, quality, play vale, and price point are all winners in my book.
