Tiana was released on February 7, 2024, and after seeing her online and in the store, she came home with me later that week. Isn't she lovely?
At the time of purchase, I wasn't very familiar with her story and wasn't completely sure whether she'd be coming here to stay. I still haven't decided whether she'll be here long term, but for now I'm enjoying having a 1920s companion for Claudie and also enjoying having Tiana for her own sake, as she's really a lovely doll.
Here's the description from the American Girl website (bolded), along with my own thoughts and photos of each piece:
Focused and driven, Tiana is determined to make her dream of opening her own restaurant come true through a mix of magic and hard work. Celebrate this beloved Disney Princess with this beautiful doll, designed in collaboration with Disney. SKU#: HWD23 $125
Includes:
An 18” Tiana doll with brown eyes that open and close, and curly black hair styled in a high bun with face-framing tendrils and a glittery green headband with yellow organza and satin petals. She has a soft cotton body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. - By now everyone knows that Tiana is the second doll to use the Claudie mold, and that she has her own unique vinyl tone. In general, I like the happy, open-mouth smile of the Claudie mold, although I do prefer the chubby-cheek profile and more detailed ears of some of the other doll molds. Compared to Claudie, Tiana has a lighter vinyl tone, lighter brown eyes, paler/pinker lips, and more noticeable feathered eyebrows. While her vinyl tone is unique and generally warmer than others, its shade is probably more similar to Gabriela or Cécile than any of the other dolls here. As the description says, her hair is pulled up in a bun with some tendrils around her face, and while I haven't yet taken it out of the original style, I think this might just be a matter of time. I really like her current hairstyle and how that's also a unique aspect of her appearance. Her body cloth is also really nice. It's a good color match and there are no annoying neck wrinkles. It might be worth noting that I didn't see any special Disney tag on my Tiana's body, and that she does have the imprinted star on the bottom of her left foot.
Side by side with Claudie (note that my phone camera tends to lighten their faces when Claudie’s in the picture):

The petal headband (which goes around the bun, not so much around her head):
And the foot:
A green-and-yellow dress featuring a yellow organza illusion neckline, satin petal-shaped bodice, layered green satin overskirt, yellow organza skirt with petal hem, and yellow satin underskirt. A yellow flower at the waist with a rhinestone center and embroidered vine details complete the look. - This dress is so pretty! It might be old hat to people who are already familiar with Tiana and are used to her water lily - inspired gown, but I love the petal shapes on the satin bodice, the green satin overskirt, and the yellow organza skirt, and I'm also completely enchanted by the flower at the waist. I don't love the yellow underskirt, which is stiff and noisy and reminds me of cheap carnival material (although in fairness, it does hold its shape so that the rest of the dress poofs out). The dress closes with a single strip of Velcro up the back.
How much do I love this? So much!
The petal bodice:
The gorgeous flower detail on the side, with its rhinestone center and trailing vines (the vines are attached under the flower but otherwise hang free):
A close up of the sparkly layers of falling petals on the opposite side:
From the back:
And from the side:
A golden-metal chain necklace with green gemstones. - This seems like an inexpensive gold colored chain and the green gemstones are just plastic, but I kind of love how this works with the rest of the outfit. The clasp is one of those kinds that's really easy to push together, and not too difficult to pull apart.
(This pic also shows off the body cloth and the smooth, zip-tie neck):
A pair of yellow elbow-length gloves. - These long gloves add an elegant touch to Tiana's outfit. They have a separate thumb but not separate fingers, and they are easy to take on and off of Tiana.
A pair of green open-toe kitten heels with golden binding. - I'm not really a fan of these plastic shoes. They feel like a squishy plastic (maybe "vegan leather"? lol) with a hard sole. The colors go well with the rest of the outfit, but even though they're a peep-toe style, the shoes are longer than Tiana's feet and you don't really see much of her toes.
A pair of green cotton underwear. - For some reason, I just love when specially colored underwear is included in a doll's outfit, and these are no exception. They are a cute spring green color that matches Tiana's dress.
Here’s a glimpse of the undies (with the long 2017 tag):
Overall, it's easy for me to give both the doll and the outfit an A. 🙂
