Associated with Addy's Surprise. Released in 1993, retired in 2013. A revised version was rereleased as part of Addy's Bedroom Accessories in 2015 and retired in 2017.Momma’s Christmas gift to Addy was this darling rag doll with a sunny, hand-stitched face, a dainty purple dress, and tiny gold earrings. Addy named her “Ida Bean” because she really was full of beans!Ida Bean is sooo sweet! She has tiny little earings like Addy and curly hair. She is really full of beans and under her skirt are pantalettes like Addy's. She is one of the best AG dolls there is and Addy loves snuggling under the covers with her Ida. A++

I actually kind of like Ida Bean more than Addy ! The reason being is that my best friend actually received her Ida before her Addy, and we would play with Ida so much. I remember us toting Ida to ballet class and even requesting that my friend bring her to my birthday sleepover --never did we have that much fun with her Addy when she finally got her. So, Miss Ida Bean, when I finally got my own, reminds me of that friend, and I smile just looking at her. Now I just have to give Ida Bean an A+! I love her simple elegance--she is not as fancy as Sam's doll, yet she just makes you smile.

My Ida Bean seems to have a lot of spunk! She's pretty and I love the little details-the earrings, red bow in her hair...She's definitely worth the money! Addy with her beloved doll!

Ida Bean is the only doll's doll I've got, she's so much cuter than the others! And I love that she's actually got the beans in her arms and legs! She just looks like a little cloth doll of her size *should*, and Addy doesn't seem to get too annoyed when I pick up "her" doll to play with her.

I recently purchased this doll and there aren't many beans in her arms and even less in her legs. Is that normal? My Ida Bean is stuffed rather full in her arms and legs. Maybe yours has a leak somewhere.

Ida Bean is now known as "Ida plastic pellets" at our house. I am glad I have her for my Addy, but I also would have been annoyed to pay full price for her and find out she doesn't even have real beans inside of her. I assume that's because real beans are too big for scale, and maybe even a sanitary hazard (would they attract bugs?). I bought her recently while she was on sale, so all in all I am satisfied with her. Just not thrilled.

My Mattel (2005) Ida Bean has metal earrings. My 2011 Ida Bean has plastic ones. So it's not a PC-to-Mattel change, but probably a post-CPSIA one.

We have two Ida Bean dolls here. I received the first one on 2/14/94 and purchased the second one for my daughter on 7/19/11. 1994 Doll on the Left and 2011 Doll on the Right As you can tell from the pictures, Ida Bean has changed a bit over the years. Most noticeably, she had a run in with a shrinking ray somewhere along the line. The newer Ida Bean is considerably smaller and lighter than the older one. Although the newer doll is smaller, its insides are the same. The head and thoracic area have a soft filling and the limbs and abdominal area have plastic pellets (at least, that’s what they feel like). Another noticeable difference is that the older Ida Bean has rounder “hands” and “feet” than the newer one. The 2011 doll has a more angular look. You’ll also notice a change in the dress material. In addition to the difference in the print, the newer dress is significantly stiffer than the older one ever was. Neither of the dresses nor the pantalettes are intended to be removed. As can be expected, the 1994 doll has metal earrings whereas my daughter’s 2011 Ida Bean has plastic ones.

I have two versions of Ida Bean. The first one (on the left) has a Pleasant Company tag from 1995. The second one (on the right) came with the BeForever Bedroom Accessories Set. Some of the obvious differences between the two ... The fabric color as well as the pattern is slightly different. The PC version is noticeably more of a purplish color while the BF version is more pink. The placement of the white dot is a little different in the two patterns, and the shape of the darker colored purple/pink design in the pattern is also slightly different. Both fabrics feel very similar. Also, PC Ida Bean has earrings while BF doesn’t. PC Ida Bean has a boxier face and more detailed stitching on her eyes. Here is PC Ida Bean: Here is BF Ida Bean: Here they are from the back. I think the backs of their heads (where I guess their hair is knotted) looks kind of funny, especially on the BF doll. Although the dress and pantalettes are meant to stay on Ida Bean, on my PC version they are actually stitched on in the neck and waist seams and cannot be removed. The BF clothing is not stitched on, and in fact the pantalettes are easily removable. I get the feeling that there might be more variation on the details of the Ida Bean dolls than in many of the other pieces of Addy’s collection, but in this case I actually prefer my BeForever version. Even though she doesn’t have earrings or detailed eyes, I do like the shape of her face better, the fact that she is less stuffed (so more huggable), and that her clothes are actually separated from her body. My overall grade for Ida Bean would be a B or maybe B-. She does seem like a home made doll and there might be a lot of variation, which could either be a good or a bad thing.
