This outfit is worn by Kirsten in the short story “Kirsten's Promise”. Released 2003, retired 2005.Kirsten stays warm on her walks to and from school in her fringed shawl over a pretty dress. Tie her braids with purple hair ribbons. This dress has it all! It's historically accurate, as we can see from the Wisconsin Historical Society museum page, it is well-made, detailed and cute. The fabric is heavy homespun of a green and purple plaid on a cream background. It's cuter in person than in catalog. It is a different style than any of her other dresses with a V bodice. The CUTEST part of the dress is the hem, which is made from a pretty calico fabric where Mama let out the grow stripe. The shawl is thick and quilted and it is a perfect dress to keep Kirsten warm. The woven purple hair ribbons are a nice addition too. Complaint: The velcro doesn't come far enough down the back to make for easy dressing for my white-bodied Kirsten. Grade: A On Molly On Samantha

I agree that this is an adorable dress for Kirsten. The only complaint I have with it is that it seems too short on my Kirsten. She is PM, and they tend to have more rounded backs than Mattel dolls; maybe that's what it is. Nonetheless, it looks really cute on her.

Originally when they sold this dress they just didn't do it any justice. The images really didn't show the details of the simple dress. The fabric is thick and lovely with a great plaid of greens and plums. The sleeve hemming is a really pleasant scallop finish. Here you can also see the fringe on the simple quilted shawl. The front of the dress is also filled with some of those simple details that pioneers would have loved. There is a scallop at the front waist-line. It is attached to two fabric triangular pieces that go up to the shoulder. The inset has additional gathering and pin tucking. Finish off Kirsten's look by adding two plum woven ribbons for her hair loops! I love it!

I will have to show a very different view on this dress. I was very disappointed with it. The fabric was too thick and unappealing. The color combination does not look good on Kirsten at all- and I do not know if that shade of green worked best for that shade of purple. The design was way too overwhelming. I was not satisfied with the dress and have not put it on my doll again. D.

I got the dress only yesterday and I am thrilled with it. It ranks with Addy's School Suit as my two favorite AG outfits. Wonderful and realistic fabric and incredible attention to detail. A+

This is another one of my favorite dresses for Kirsten (along with her summer dress). I love the color combination and the pattern of the dress. It is a perfect winter dress. It is a high quality dress and shawl set and the purple ribbons are great (they go with the midsummer dress too). Overall an A+++ from me.

What would you say the shawl fabric is? My dress came without one, so I thought I would make one. Thank you for the close-up pics! I will overstich to make the quilted look. PS The dress is also beautiful on Josefina. Maybe even better than on Kirsten herself! I think the shawl is muslin. It's thick and quilted.
