Released in 1987 with real fur, later modifications, retired with 2009 archival.
Springtime on the farm brought new baby animals. Kirsten’s favorite was the tiny gray kitten that Missy, the mother cat, almost forgot. Both animals have the softest coats you’ve ever felt and bright green eyes. Their little pink tongues are just waiting to lap up a saucer of cream at Kristen’s birthday party.
I really like Kirsten's cats! They're smaller than I thought, but very cute and very soft. Their eyes are like the dolls eyes, not painted on or anything like that. I also like the little yarn ball with the kitten. A+!

I have the original black cats. They are very soft and cute! Pics may be coming later of them. They are pretty small, also. It looks like they have eyes that are similar to doll's eyes, too. Their tongues are also sticking out! So cute!

I love these guys, recently, I noticed that the newer version have sewn on whiskers. Mine have the old plastic-ey kind. I give these an A++ for sure! Very nice and poseable for pictures. -Megan

We bought the pair of cats in 2008, and they no longer have the plastic eyes and whiskers, instead both features are stitched on. It looks fine, really, just expect that when you buy them - also there is no more wire in their tails. The cats are much more to scale than humongous JLY Licorice, and are the perfect accessory for Kirsten. AAnd a close-up of the embroidered face and tiny yarn ball:

I have the real fur black cats, with emerald green eyes. They have stickers that say they were made in West Germany. Very soft, I personally think they are cuter than the new ones. If you have a problem with fur, you should get the newer set, but if it is not a big deal to you, the original cats are darling.

I bought my daughter this set last year when it was on sale. We bought it for Mia. :-) I definitely would recommend it. The cats are soft, and I like the eyes. Nibs has some great pictures of it above. Because there are two cats, it increases the playability. The only problem we've had with it, is the yarn ball has come undone a little. I think I can rectify that with a bit of glue.
Overall, though, I'd give this set an A. I enjoy the soft body animals far more than the hard body ones.
