Samantha wore this dress in the DVD Samantha: An American Girl Holiday and a version is also shown in the short story "Samantha Saves the Wedding."
This is a really pretty dress in person. It is made out of some lavender silk-like mateirial, but I'm certain it's neither silk nor the mateirial used for Felicity and Elizabeth's dresses. At the base of the dress there are two frills. The lace at the bottom is part of an attached petticoat which is mainly white cotton. The Velcro on this dress is not the normal kind which snags easily, it dosen't snag at all so Sam's hair is safe. There are lacy frills at the beginning of the sleeves, and there are elasticated frills (not lacy) on the cuffs. The dress is pretty study and is not liable to rip. The hat is similar to Nellie's hat if you don't look at the decorations, but parts of it are trasperent so that it looks like lace. The band is of the same kind of "silk" as the dress, and there is a flower, of the same kind as in the bouquet, on it. The lace is also study but keep it away from Velcro that easily snags, unlike the kind on the dress. The flowers on the bouquet are generic AG flowers. In the center are pink roses. These center roses are framed by a white flower and leaves. It is all wrapped in a paper doily. Underneath that is a dowel wrapped in white ribbon. To this some wide white ribbon is tied in a bow. There is also some thin lavender ribbon, not in a bow. The white ribbon has more of those small white flowers on it, and there is an elastic strap on the opposite side of the dowel so the doll can hold it. The bouquet can also be kept in a doll room by putting it in a tiny flowerpot or vase. All in all I give this outfit an A. I would have given it an A+ if the shoes were included. I think for the price-$26-they ought to have been included. Hope this helps, Sitara

I agree the dress is not quite so ugly in person. However, the hat is still awful and the dress does not look good on Sam, period. (It looked pretty good in the movie, I admit.) However, the bouquet is quit nice; the flowers are a cut above the usual AG flowers.

I bought this dress only because my 5 year old wanted it for her Samantha. Judging by the online picture and in the catalogs I always thought it was gaudy and the material looked cheap. Not so. I was impressed when I first saw it in person. The material is thick and satiny and the little hat and bouquet are so cute. I would give this one an A.

My sis got this dress for her b-day (her first thing from Sam's collection in six years!). I like it a lot more than I thought I would! It is a rather odd color, but the fabric is nice. I wish it came with shoes, and I wish the little bouquet was more sturdy.

Overall Grade: B+ The components of this outfit are well made and I feel like I got my money's worth for this outfit. ($20 on sale) It is definitely not my favorite outfit for Samantha and think the design is a little tacky (conservative Grandmary would probably agree!). I'm on the fence about this outfit - get it if you are a completist, but Sam has some other outfits that look nicer on her.
As others mentioned before, the dress is definitely thicker than other satin materials Mattel uses. The elastic on the cuffs makes it difficult to get the dress over Samantha's hands. The purple is a pretty color- the last four photos are a better indication of the real life color of the dress.
The bouquet is made of silk flowers. There are even a few flowers attached to the ribbons hanging down from the bouquet. I don't think that is very realistic, but it looks nice.
Finally, help to hold accessories! The bouquet has a strap of elastic that can easily be slipped over a doll's hand. The doily on the bottom of the bouquet is made of similar material as the one on Molly's birthday cake and Sam's party treats.
There are two different types of lace on this outfit. The ruffles on the front of the dress are a smaller pattern and cross over the front. The larger lace on the shoulders is the same as the lace that lines the bottom of the dress.
The dress has a white underskirt that goes all the way up to the waistband of the dress and it is sewn there. This was a welcome surprise and is much nicer than simply having the lace attached to the bottom of the dress.
This is my least favorite part of the outfit. The hat is well made and sturdy. The rose and silk band match the rest of the dress nicely. I do not care for the veil. I'm not sure about the historical accuracy of this, but I think it looks absolutely awful and causes the hat to fall backwards off Sam's head.
Not my favorite of Sam's many dresses. I dislike the color and find that it looks a bit tacky, too. I liked the color of the dress better in the movie. The one thing I do like about this dress is the elastic help on the bouquet of flowers - as mentioned earlier, it is a great help!
