]Isabelle's Performance set - $38
Item# F7335
Isabelle designs this spectacular costume for her "Waltz of the Flowers" ballet performance. The sleek unitard is capri length, and the tutu skirt is made of layers of mesh and tulle. She adds a corsage of satin flowers embellished with rhinestones and sequins. Includes shimmery dance shoes, plus a rhinestone tiara and jeweled wristband.
I got this outfit at the DC store on Jan 1st. It was one of the outfits that I immediately knew that I wanted from Isabelle's collection.
Jeweled Wristband A
It is a nice wristband, but doesn't really add to the outfit. I'm not sure that she would really wear a wristband like this during a ballet performance of the Nutcracker?
Pros: A nice piece to use everyday
Cons: Not for ballet?
Unitard A
I liked this outfit for the unitard. I don't know much about dance, but I do know that the gymnasts around here use these black unitards a lot.
Pros: The fit is good. My Marisol has a chubby PM body and huge shoulders so it is a little snug on her.
Cons: The back fastens up with the old rough velcro. This material will really snag, so be careful. I cut a piece of velcro I have and used the fuzzy side to cover up the hooks when taking it on or off.
Tutu skirt A+
This tutu is really soft and fits very well. It has an elastic waist that makes it easy to slip on and off. There are 2 layers to the tulle, a pink under layer and the cream/beige over layer. The top layer has more volume to it because there are half circle pieces of tulle sewn to the flat skirt. You can see in this picture the thread loop used to attach the satin flowers.
Pros: Good color, should go with many of her other mix and match pieces (and I have used it with the rosette tutu and it looks great). Good fit.
Cons: None.
Rhinestone tiara A+
The tiara is made out of metal and is heavy! It has pink and white rhinestones in it to make a 3 star pattern. The back of the tiara is a comb to push into her hair.
Pros: metal!
Cons: none
Satin Flowers C
This is the weakest link in the whole set, in my opinion. The flowers are pretty, but I don't understand why they are at her waist and not on her wrist? They button onto the top of the tutu skirt, but the button is at the bottom of the flower piece (see blurry photo). This causes the piece to be top heavy when buttoned on and my flowers always seem to want to fall forward or spin on the button so the heavy top moves to the bottom.
Pros: Pretty piece
Cons: Awkward attachment method and placement.
Dance Shoes B+
These are a steel grey color. The straps up her legs are not tie on ribbons, they are an elastic piece that has been sewn into loops. You have to thread her feet in the loops to get the correct look. It took me several tries to get it sort of right and you can see that my "ribbons" are still twisted. I didn't get a photo of the bottom of her shoes, but there is not the American Girl stamp on them like on the other ballet shoes in this collection (see the review for the Barre and the Dance Case). They are an odd color for this outfit, but other than that they seem to be fine. I can't comment about how authentic they are, again, no dance experience.
Pros: They fit
Cons: Straps are fiddly and an odd color
Overall, I really like this outfit and give it an A. I think several of the pieces will work well with other pieces in her collection.
