Himalayan Kitten
Item# BKB87
Every American Girl® doll loves a playful pet—and this cute Himalayan kitten is the purr-fect pick! She has soft fur and a body that can be posed in different positions. A magnet in her mouth lets her hold a favorite toy.
$28
I have many AG dogs (and one llama), but I have never owned an AG cat before. When the poseable pets came out, I could not decide which dog to get, and chose the only cat instead. He has a very hard core and his legs pose a bit. His head is able to turn from side to side. His ears and tail are soft and not poseable. He has plastic eyes (black and blue) and a dark pink plastic nose. His mouth is sewn on in a sort of permanent frown. The cat comes with a brightly colored plastic fish toy, which contains a magnet. It is a little tricky to get the cat to hold it.
I was expecting, based on AG photos, that the nose of the cat wouldn't be quite so flat to the face, and I was surprised when I took the cat out of the box at how much it made me think of Grumpy Cat. That said, I do really like this cat.
It's honestly not all that poseable. Being familiar with the My Twinn Poseable Pets, I was hoping for something more like those, but in a smaller AG scale. Having one leg extended means the animal can't stand on its own-- it's leaning all the way back on its feet in this picture, not standing upright.
This is about the full range of the posing.
The bottoms of the feet are brown and kind of leather-feeling. One foot has a pink AG logo star stitched onto it. I really wish they had done stitched or printed paw prints!
AG pets are generally not very good in terms of scale. This is obvious enough with the dogs and compared to a range of AG dogs, this cat is HUGE. However, it really wouldn't work any other way. With all the new pets being about the same size, they can all use the accessories and clothes (and they can all sit at the same price point). I named my cat Goliath.
Here's a picture of magnetic Coconut holding the fish toy. It is even harder to get Coconut to hold this fish, though she holds the toys made for her just fine. I don't know if it's the shape of the fish or what.
I admit that I rarely feel like AG pets are worth their prices, but that never stops me from buying them. Is this cat worth $28? No, but if you would like to purchase an official AG cat, this one is very lovable. He doesn't rank all that high in value, but he ranks very highly in cute. I have to give this cat an A.
