Released in 1998 for $18, retired in 2002. The telescope was sold separately after the set retired.
Josefina’s summer was certainly full of surprises. As she played her clay flute one sunny day, she summoned a startling bird indeed—an American named Patrick! He showed Josefina something magical—a telescope that made faraway objects leap into view. Take your telescope out of its purple pouch and let Josefina take a peek—it really works! In the plaza at Santa Fe, Josefina saw the U.S. flag for the first time. Its stars and stripes of red, white, and blue were so different from the Mexican flag she was used to. A shiny metal mirror brought by American traders also caught Josefina’s eye. But it was a desert tortoise that led Josefina to the biggest surprise of all!
A+
This set includes A Clay Flute, Telescope, Pouch, U.S. Flag, Mexican Flag, Mirror and Desert Tortoise.

I just got this set today and I positively love it!
The little yellow bird flute is just so sweet. It is hand painted. It seems pretty sturdy considering it is made of terracotta. It is on a long black leather like cord so Josefina can wear it around her neck.
The mirror is so nice! You can remove the little embossed metal cover to reveal a real glass mirror. The back of the mirror has a little stand so you can set the mirror up, or loop the stand over Josefina's finger so she can hold it.
The U.S. Flag and Mexican Flag are made of cloth that has been finished on all the edges, and carefully stapled to wooden sticks that are painted black.
The desert tortoise is so cute! His tummy is stamped "Pleasant Company". He is a hard rubbery material like toy turtles you would find at a museum gift shop, the toy store or the even the dollar tree.
The telescope and pouch are very nice. The telescope really works! You can find a full review of the telescope here
A+ for a terrific little set with tons of play value.
