Roller Skating Outfit (retired)

This outfit was introduced in Spring 2006 along with Molly's Roller Skates and other items, and it retired in 2008.

See Molly on the go in her roller-skating clothes. Her polka-dot blouse is paired with plaid knee-length culottes. Slip on her white socks and brown loafer shoes before strapping on her skates. Don’t forget to tie her braids back in the turquoise hairbow to keep them from blowing in the breeze! Includes trading cards.


This outfit is pretty cute. The blouse is yellow cotton with white polka dots and a little bit of lacy trim and fake buttons. It fits tightly in the sleeves on my Molly and less tightly on our visitor Molly. The skort is plaid, which I'm not fond of, but it works. It fits both PM Mollys just fine. The socks are thick and I think they should be thinner. The shoes are kind of plasticy feeling and tough to get on, but they're very cute. The hair ribbon is blah. It's grosgrain like Addy's hair ribbons but not as silky feeling and it slips off very easily.

We put this outfit on our PM Molly for the first time today, although we've had it for a while. The socks are definitely too thick for the shoes, and I had to turn Molly upside-down to get those blasted shoes on! They are meant to be penny loafers, and it's a shame that the top isn't closed with a mini penny inside. Oh well. The top is pretty. We had a hard time getting the sleeves of the blouse over Molly's hands, but it fit fine once it slid past her hands. I was pleased to see how well the cut fit our chubby little PM girl. I actually do like the plaid of the skort and the ribbon matches it nicely; we didn't have any trouble keeping it on. The skates fit well over the shoes and stayed on for a session of skating. B+ also here....

I love this outfit! My PC Molly received it last night and it fits her just fine. I love the colors and so does Molly - she was getting tired of just red, white, and blue! The socks are cute but it is hard to get the shoes on over them. Does anyone know where I can buy a doll sized shoe horn?

After I took the photo I tried the AG Blue Glasses on Molly with the outfit and it's adorable! Not a perfect color match but very close.

I also plan to use the yellow blouse with Molly's Aviator Outfit. Her aunt is wearing khaki slacks and a yellow shirt in the illustrations which is good enough for me.

I bought this for the blouse and shoes, I'll admit it. I'm crazy about shoes and blouses that aren't overly girly, and this one isn't, even though it has the eyelet lace and puffy sleeves. I'm so glad I did buy it, too, because it's really nice!

My thoughts on...

The blouse:

The sleeves were easy to get over Beatrice's hands, but they're awfully tight around her upper arms and the cuffs tend to stick just above her elbows, so I can't get them very puffy. I also have to be careful to turn them so they don't lie funny.

I love the four buttons on the front, and how there isn't a fifth. I thought I'd hate that, but the fifth button would be in the same spot as the waistband of her shorts, so that's crazy helpful! It stinks that they aren't working buttons, though, and the velcro is in the back. It is yellow velcro, but it's also the older kind that will snag hair.

The length is really nice - it comes down a good length towards the doll's hips. But it's kind of tight around the waist. This is good because it looks better tucked in, but I prefer it untucked, and that gives it a weird look over other waistbands, especially things that velcro in the front.

Shorts:

These are not in any way a 'skort' in my mind. They're just shorts. A skort would have the appearance of a skirt, and these definitely don't! They're the same pattern cut as the shorts from Kit's Reds Fan outfit, but they're made of a softer material and they have pleats in the front, so they lie differently.

Despite the elastic in the back of the waist, they're kind of tight on Beatrice and it was difficult for me to get them on properly. Also, once I had them pulled up to the right spot, the legs looked weird - they probably need pressing or steaming real bad. I do like the belt in the front, with the oval, silver buckle. It looks like it's a miniature ribbon in the same color as the one that came for Molly's hair.

Here are photos with the shirt tucked in and untucked - I prefer it untucked because the shorts look odd otherwise (in my opinion):

The ribbon:

This looks like a standard ribbon. It's a very pretty shade of cerulean and the same width as my doll's foot! I thought it was odd that they sent one ribbon, when this is technically a Molly outfit, and she usually gets two ribbons for her braids.

Socks:

I am awful with socks. I can't get them on the feet right, and then I can't get shoes on over them, so I'm not a socks fan, in general - not even on my own feet, unless I'm wearing my boots! These are awfully thick, and the seam is longer than usual. It goes all the way around the foot from one heel stitch to the other.

At first I thought they were supposed to be knee-highs, and they stay up really nicely as such, but the picture on the little card has them folded over. I think they're too thick to do that, but maybe not. I'm not a fan of socks anyway. They're definitely too thick to get the loafers on easily, though.

Penny-Loafers:

I LOVE these shoes! I'm sad I missed out on Molly's brown oxfords, but I think these are a good consolation prize, so to speak. They're a classic style and they look really nice. They're a reddish brown, more red than the Horselover boots, which I thought were awfully red looking, if you're curious about the color.

The faux-leather is very soft, so you might need to be careful putting them on. I had trouble at a few points with getting Beatrice's heel in without smushing the back of the shoe down. Also, the sole is that soft faux-leather stuff, not the sturdier plastic or anything.

Now, if you're like me, you probably wonder how these pieces can mix-and-match. The blouse would likely look awesome with jeans, but I had Kit's overalls and the Coconut Best Friend cargo crops at hand, so that's what I put with the shirt for photos. As you can see with the crops, the velcro closure looks odd under the shirt when untucked, but I think it looks nicer than when it's tucked in. Also, I love the look with the overalls! It's very cute and comfortable without being overly girly, and it's a nice alternative to the striped shirt the overalls come with.

I think the shorts would probably look good with a white long-sleeved t-shirt layered underneath a blue or yellow camisole tank, much like the AGT skateboarding outfit or picnic time outfit were.

I just got this outfit in the mail earlier this evening. And I too, bought it for the blouse and shoes.

The entire outfit fits great on my PM Molly -- I had been worried that it wouldn't fit her very well, because I'd read that PM dolls are a bit... chunkier... than the Mattel dolls.

The blouse is fantastic, I love it so much. I like the shorts, more than I thought I would -- I think they'd be cute with a yellow tank top for spring/summer. The socks are okay, but they're almost too thick to wear with the shoes -- the shoes are hard to get on, and the socks also bunch up weirdly around the ankles.

I'd like the shoes so much more if they were actually BROWN. I thought they were brown. They looked brown to me on the site. They're deep cranberry red. I don't think they go well with the outfit, but they would match well with an outfit that had similar colors -- maybe her school jumper? I actually just finished a school jumper for her using the patterns I downloaded from the AGPT main site out of green and white plaid -- the loafers look alright with it, but I get a Christmas vibe from it with the green of my jumper and the dark cranberry red of the shoes.

This outfit gets a solid B from me. Would be an A if the loafers were brown though!

I originally didn't like this outfit, but not that I have seen it in peson, I really like it. The blouse it well made and really cute. I like that is is a separate, and she can mix and match some. The colors in the shoerts are a little odd, but probably not for the 40's. I like the culotte style though; it makes them different and more feminine. The shoes are awesome;I can see Molly wearing them with almost all her other outfits. They are more red than they looked in AG's pictures, though. The socks are nice, but much too thick to wear with the penny loafers. Molly is happy to have another pair of socks though. The hair ribbon is the only thing I really dislike about this outfit. It is a strange texture, and not long enough to make a decent bow. I wil probably replace it with something alse Outfit:A Ribbon:D

This is another outfit I would not have bought if I hadn't seen pictures of it here on agplaythings.

It's adorable in person, and as someone else said, a very nice change from all the red, white and blue in Molly's collection! I love the cheery colors, and the fact that it is historically accurate.

DD has a PM Molly, so I was worried that we might have fit issues, but we didn't. I didn't even have a problem getting the loafers on over the thick socks. I actually prefer the thicker socks to Molly's meet socks, which seem to snag so easily.

I think every piece in this outfit could be used to mix-and-match. The single hair ribbon is a very pretty color, but I'm not really sure what to do with it, so I just use it to tie the ends of Molly's two braids together and that seems to make DD happy.

Another outfit that I thought I didn't want but ended up LOVING. The blouse is beautiful and looks great with the shorts or with pants. The shorts are just too cute. I love the shoes - but man did I swear as I was putting them on! Grade "A" for the outfit; "C" for the shoes (difficultly rating)

I recently bought this outfit off ebay. I *LOVE* everything except the ribbon. You are supposed to use it to tie Molly's braids back so they don't fly around while she's skating. But the ribbon isn't long enough and too wide. I wasn't even able to tie a bow.

Her shoes were a little too tight at first. But after I took them on and off a few time they seemed to loosen up some. I agree with the doll sized shoe horn comment. That's EXACTLY what I was thinking the first time I tried to put her shoes on.

I didn't buy the blue version of the skates. I already had the skates from the Party Games set. So I couldn't see spending $25 - $30 on another pair just because they were a different color. So I can't review them.

So far, this is my all time favorite Molly outfit.

The only things I have to add that haven't been added already... our shorts were a tight squeeze to get on our Molly, and I didn't have a problem getting the shoes on over her socks. I love all of the pieces that come with this set, and I really like the bright springy colors.



Overall, I still give this outfit an A+!
