While my daughter was drawn to this outfit, I question how much use it’ll get. Wedding doesn’t seem to be a common American Girl play theme at our house and the set isn’t particularly versatile. However, with all its pieces, the outfit could be a good gift for an American Girl loving Junior Bridesmaid or Flower Girl. The set contains a dress, sandals, wreath, bouquet, gift, card, and book for girls.
Dress:
The dress is made of a soft, relatively light weight satin, has a lined skirt and fastens with “snag-free” Velcro. While it’s quite pretty and fairly well made, I wish that the crossover straps were designed a bit differently. The neckline reveals a fair amount of unsightly body cloth and there is a noticeable triangle where the straps overlap. The dress fits fairly well, but may be small on the chubbiest of AG dolls.
Sandals:
The very light baby pink sandals are fairly typical AG dress shoes. They slip on fairly easily and have a clear strap in back to help secure them to the foot. The kitten heals are cute, but dolls don’t stand very well in them. One of the shoes has an extra little tag with some numbers on it (0829 01). It’s a little strange, but is easy to hide under the shoe straps.
Wreath:
The hair wreath is fairly substantial, fits well, and has artificial flowers all the way around the band. The artificial flowers are definitely fake looking, but look alright with the rest of the outfit.
Calla Lily Bouquet:
The lilies are really artificial looking and have limited play potential. However, the doll may look cute holding them in a spring/summer display.
Card and Envelope:
The card is sort of a neat addition and could probably double as a birthday card. However, it is a little bit on the small side.
Gift: The bride and groom must have not had a gift registry. The box with a squished bow comes with nothing but air.
Book: The book contains hair and pampering tips. It’s not wonderful, but is worth scanning.
Overall, the set is pretty, but not particularly versatile. I doubt that it’ll see much playtime.
